Superdetailed Mercedes Benz 300 SL

Oliver's model inspired me to build one of my own. This is going to be a long term superdetailed project with all the bells and whistles, so stay tuned and check back as updates will be posted often.

ENGINE:

These are the photos of the real engine pictures:

My version:

Rims

INTERIOR:

Real:

Scale:

Flocked, rivets are photoetched, pedals are detail master items, shifter is a ferrari item

Trick bettery cover, opening and closing

No seatbelts yet, but the seat were treated to semi clear luster shine

Body, test fitted together (The horrible flash on these 30 year old kits is unspeakable... )I think I carved the entire shape of the car out of solid piece of plastic....

Please comment. Oli, sorry to start on the same project as you, but you made it look too good, I am just hoping to make it half as good... Please share your experiences.

Re: Superdetailed Mercedes Benz 300 SL

Nice one, good looking interior, steering wheel should be a bit more glossy and bit more ivory, right? The carpet is perfect, great job. I would get lost with all of that wires on the engine

Looking mighty fine there already!

Ah, well I guess you can't have too many of these, is this the AMT kit BTW?

and ps, nice engine work, very realistic, and good luck for the rest of the build

(what colour it's gonna get?)

Re: Superdetailed Mercedes Benz 300 SL

Hahaha thanks everyone, I actually have 3 of these kits, all being used for this project. An Iteleri/Testors drop top kit (donating its rims and tires and spare trunk parts) and 2 AMT kits ( a championship series, which I later found out is the same as production series, but with "trophies" in 1/25 scale)

I will post some more progress today... The steering wheel is more Ivory and glossy (it does not photograph well with my crappy camera and lighting set up. I also made a choke pull and put the keys in the ignition...I am trying to replicate some luggage pieces for the rear rack, does anyone have any in 1/24 or 1/25 scale? A briefcase may be? Thanks.

Re: Superdetailed Mercedes Benz 300 SL

We have a race Ladies and Gentlemen! Will Oli win having had a head start or will SLK put in a big effort and cross the line first!

Looking great so far, will look forward to seeing this classic progress, both of them!
