Good grief, never have I seen anyone post so many attachments without much text. Plus this person doesn't seem to like to make responses.

In any case, the Pulsar/Almera is a decent car. Internationally, the rally bred boxy Pulsar GTi-R (SR20DET/all wheel-drive) died out of production many years ago. The pictured cars on this thread are known as Pulsars in Japan, and Almeras in the U.K. They don't have factory turbochargers. They are front wheel-drive. So what makes them so likeable? They make a bold statement saying that Nissan is capable of creating a car that can compete with those well-famed from the Honda camp--you know, compact naturally aspirated front-drivers.

I'm glad the latest Pulsars in Japan utilized the high-spirited SR16VE and SR20VE motors instead of going with turbochargers, which Nissan is known well for. They may have excellent expertise in turbo engineering, but the Pulsar VZ-R and VZ-R N1 help Nissan become more well rounded, showing that Nissan is STILL quite vertasile with any platform or application, including natural aspiration.

Quote:
The GTi is only an 1800 and barely make 160hp, and is well, pretty slow. As for handeling, well they do pretty well for a car with a LOG for a real axle.
--Moppie

I don't know what they sell down in your area of the world, but we must not forget that ANYTHING powered by an SR engine is either already fast, or easily capable of becoming fast. So can I safely assume you never received the SR16VE as well? 200hp/1600cc motors generally don't get labeled as "pretty slow"; they are labeled as 'higher horsepower/liter ratio than the Honda S2000'. For the fact that Nissan didn't pack their neigbors' Pulsars with these hearts we will never forgive. And "as for handling", corporate multi-link beam suspension set-ups may appear distasteful, but they get the job done really well.

Below: the coveted 1.6L SR16VE rated 200hp@7800rpm

Anyways, I don't know why the older Almera is even being discussed; U.K's newest Almera is just as driver friendly, while being a whole lot better to look at:

Iv only ever heard rummors about the SR16VE and every search Iv tried only ever turns up Japanese pages.
200hp from a 1600 is certainly achviable, but I would like to know how they did it, and still made it meet Japans tough emissions laws.
(of course in about 12mnths they'll be showing up here as imports, so ill be able to go buy one )
Can you tell me any more about this engine? It must be VERY peaky, even with some kind of variable cam timing.

Excuse me for that part; call me blunt or even obscene, but many here in the U.S. see Europe almost like one big country; you ALL share so many great aspects of culture that sometimes it's easy for us yanks to forget that you, yourselves, can easily differentiate each other. Of course, I don't speak for everyone and there are many cosmopolitans here as well.

I don't know if the other countries of Europe receive the same products that the U.K. does; however, I have a pretty good understanding of what they themselves get, and so I tend to refer to them quite a bit.

As for postwhoring, I try to stay away from it. There's always plenty to say, especially with a forum such as this, encircling so much discussion. I admit, once or twice I've posted a series of pictures, but only so because I don't want to waste time going back and figuring out where I got them.

Oh by the way, thanks for making a response!

What's that rod-like thing on the headlights? Wipers? Or just a piece of styling? Too bad we don't get much information about genuine Almeras/Pulsars here in the U.S. But I really love that rear end. Makes me want to go out and buy back my 200SX (like an "Almera/Pulsar 2-door coupe", to the rest of the world) and fit on a third door.

It originally was a 1400cc but then i had it Supercharged, which lasted all of 4 months then a con rod snapped and went thru the block several times.
