I play in a christian band, and that band has earned me a pretty good living and more than a few friends.
I believe, but I know a lot of people don't believe or don't want to believe. My best friend is a non believe, and we both know where the other stands.

Being LDS, they should have asked if you had any interest and you said no they should have thanked you for your time and left. I hate it when people give other people a bad name.

I think that it's great that they have somthing to believe in and believe in it strongly. I think it's even greater that they want to spread that belief to others. But the way in which they do it goes agianst everything that any book of any god says. That said I must digress into somthing funny that me and my old collage room mate did. We had some vietnamese people living in the apartment below us and they were unbeleavable assholes. They would come up and knock on our door at like 7:30 in the evening saying that our TV/Music was to loud when it really wasn't, then one day one of their relitaves came to the door wanting to talk to us about Budda, I politely told them that we were not interested. The very next day I heard a knock at the door and when I look through the peephole it was the same people. Now you know the little elephant bowls that they feed elephants out of? Well I have one of those so I come to the door... Naked, eating frosted mini-wheats out of the bowl and say in the nicest tone of voice ever, "May I help you?"

The other hard part is that Mormons (and other religions) want to get into a debate on why they are right. And a lot of them cut you off, interupt and just become more of a thorn in the side. I guess many believe if you are aggressive and pushy enough it will convince people you are right.

But with the way some people (any religion) push their beliefs and get too pushy, I can see why others don't want to respond to it.

I live in a city (not in Utah) with a higher-than-average Mormon population, and some of my close friends are Mormons.

The way I see their missionary work is that they are insecure. Think about it--if you were secure and sure about your religion and way of life, would you care what other people felt? Do you see the Amish going on missions? No, because they are very content within themselves and their way of life. The Mormons ("Latter-Day Saints") and other religions that do aggressive missionary work obviously need reinforcement from people outside their church.

The way I see it, the LDS church is one of the most successful pyramid schemes in the history of the modern world. For those of you that don't know, a missionary pays for his own mission--not the church. The expense for a mission easily goes into the thousands of dollars. They (Mormons) are also required to pay 10% of their income to the church. Those of you that are familiar with the way pyramid schemes work see how the Mormon church applies. A missionary uses his own money to get other people to join the church so that the church can get more money from the converts. Meanwhile, the fat cats (the Mormon "prophets") are getting rich at the top. And trust me, they're RICH! Supposedly they can forsee the future, but if they could, they would have obviously forseen the unfortunate events of September 11.

My other beef with the Mormon church is the fact that they're racists (they wouldn't let African-Americans or Africans into the church until missionaries started doing work in Africa recently--they saw the money in it) and that their sexists (those of you that know a typical Mormon family know what I'm talking about). But, I think I've talked enough...

This one takes balls,spare time and a deaf ear,but it's worth it!When some nutter,"joey",norman" or other misc. Bible basher comes to your door,invite them in!
Sit them down,be friendly,(you must be worn out, have a cup of tea,yada yada) let them bang on for as long as you can stand (ask the odd quesion,the sillier the better, they lap it up!)be supportive and act interested.If you can stand it ,keep them going for at least two hours .Finally when you have had enough bullshit for one day ,look them straight in the eye and say 'well,thats my good deed for the day '.They will be puzzled.Explain that by holing them up at your place for 2 hours you have prevented them from annoying about 100 of your neighbours.Explain that they are about as popular as haemorrhoids an just as close to an asshole.Wish them good day and thank them for 2 hours of the most entertaining satire you've ever heard.If they are true believers they will be forgiving you before they reach the sidewalk!

LMAO!! I had a music teacher once that invited representatives from all of the major religions to his house. Of course, some people couldn't talk to others, etc...but it turned into a whole big fiasco and everybody was pissed at my music teacher. Kinda hilarious, I think.
