yeah you were right gangstarr. they still make them in japan even today. well i'll be damned. hahahaha soo i guess they still sold pretty well. i wondered why bestmotoring stoped using them. all i know is that i've seen them use it and they are all pro japanese drivers. and the supra never did soo well, its usually the last place. and i even seen an integra type R beat it at the track. then agian the ITR also beat the NSX, the porsche and the evo for some miraculious reason. hmmmmmmm

Look at it this way. What good is it to get your Supra up to 1000+ hp if every time you hit the gas out of a corner you have to worry about lighting up your rear tires and spinning into a tree? With a R34 you have a computer monitoring wheelspin, lateral acceleration, and G forces 10 times a second and putting torque to individual wheels accordingly.

yeah that's what i said, the only advantage i see is that the GTR has that AWD system. and that's a damn big advantage!

i saw a race between a skyline and supra, and the skyline beat it threw the beginning, but then once that supra got into the top end it caught up and killed the skyline

too bad the supra doesn't have the AWD, cause they're real hard to launch

the auto supras have a special traction control though, so you get way better launches with it..

I donno I'f I'd say AWD was the GTRs ONLY advantage, I think it's suspension lets it handle better then the Supra, but thats just IMHO.

Another thing to remember is the Supra uses a 3 liter engine while the GTR uses only a 2.6 litre mill. The Supra is heavier which also plays as a disadvantage to it, but it makes up for that in overal aero dynamics as stated earlier.

If you want all out pure hp, handling, and a total package of what is available the skyline will out do the Supra. Though the Supra is sloutch and should not be underestimated.

Getting huge hp down to the ground with a turbo charged car is not easy and there is where the overall package of the Skyline will win.

Veilside makes some pretty aero kits for the R34 which allow it to run amazing top speeds.

Pick the Skyline all around.

oh yeah, i forgot to mention that the US spec Supra is waaaaay better than the Jspec supra

The Supra offered in Japan (and other areas where Jspecs are sold) has:

440cc Injectors (US Spec has 550cc i think)
Smaller Ceramic Turbines
Map Sensor instead of MAF
Different EGR gear
ECU

those are the differences... so the Supra here puts down over 45hp more stock

In Japan there is a limit for manufacturers , vehicles for japanese market can't be more powerful than 280 hp , but it's well known that many top-notch japanese cars make a lot more stock even if they are rated at 280 hp. Also they can be tuned up so some versions from what i've heard are given to customer , he pays , signs etc. and then gives the car back to factory and they make more hp of it... i don't see much sense in this all but that's not my business either... Also in germany manufacturers usually tell way "conservative" hp numbers because they actually pay taxes that depend on how much hp their vechicles make , also many cars rated at 193 hp in germany make way more because vehicles below 193 hp have cheaper insurance or so, world is strange thought...

it's actually 276hp and it's just a gentleman's agreement, not a law or anything

and the Supra in the US, actually does have about 45 more hp than the j spec.... because of the things i listed earlier (smaller injectors, smaller turbos)

the only place in north america that you can buy a skyline is motorex in Cali

and they're way overpriced, more than twice the price of a skyline in Japan

put it this way... would you like to spend $90K on the skyline, and have a nice used stock GTR
or would you like to buy a SupraTT for around $35k than put in about 30k mods, and have a Ferrari/Viper/Lamborghini/Porsche killer? (and still have 25k change left over)

If i had 90k for a car i wouldn't buy a skyline , and i wouldn't buy a supra either , i'd take a second-hand porsche turbo or a ferrari or a diablo from early 90s... Or a Bmw M5 with some serious mods... Anyway something from the highest class and the best manufacturers , not that the supra is something bad , but it isn't worth 65k even with 700 hp or whatever... But that's only my opinion

Well I have to agree with you guys about the price for a Skyline in the States. You guys have it rough over there, but also this is topic did not specify location as I can pick up GTR's here a hell of a lot cheaper. A good second hand R34 GTR with say 40,000 kms on the clock for about $35,000 USD. That would be a first generation Vspec 1. The R32 such as what I have currently I picked up for about $13,000 USD.

This topic is so opinionated and no matter what one person says about what car someone will always disagree. The fact is in road trim both cars go very well. Both have advantages over the other in certain areas. A very good mate of mine has a MKIV Supra TT and even with a front mount, HKS EVC III, big bore, pod filters, and street/drag tyres only managed mid 13's on the 1/4 mile. While a stock GTR will pull upper 12's all day long with only pods and a big bore.

I comfort well the GTR seats are harder but they also wrap around you when you sit in them so they have excellent lateral and head support. The control layout of the Supra is a like or not and so is the Skyline.

Style wise it is personal preference.

holy crap!!

I've seen a guy with only a boost controller on a stock supra run 12.9
he just cranked up the boost

a stock US spec supra runs low 13s stock...

just getting the basic mods, like exhaust, downpipe, intake, etc.
should get a supra into mid 12s
