Let's discuss the highs and lows of each car, and then which one you would take overall.

The R34 Skyline GT-R or a MKIV Supra TT

It's a tough decision for me, so I've stopped trying to pick. I've loved supras for a loooong time, and since we don't have skylines in north america it's been my favorite car for a long time.
But the GTR is an unbelievable car...

I have a feeling most people are gunna say skyline, but give good reasons. When i looked at this comparo on a Supra forum everybody said supra, but that was waaaay biased. So I wanted to start this again on a neutral forum

Modded or stock?

Once you walk into the area of modification, there is no winner since there is always another mod that can be done. Going stock to stock, I'd rather have the Supra because I trust the Toyota engineers more then the Nissan ones. However, I had the choice of Supra TT or the 3000 VR4, and you can see the way I went on that issue.

I'd say that the supra is more.... Supras have an amazingly strong engine, the stock bottem end on supras is unblievable, and alot stronger than the skylines. There are Supras that have 700hp on a STOCK bottem end, those 2JZ-GTEs can take ALOT

yeah, i totally agree with that.... any car can be modded further

Isn't a supra the fastest car right now? that top secret supra or something like that i forget the name. But people are saying that it's the fastest top speed car (i'm not sayin it's true, just what i heard)

I dont know of a secret supra, but I would doubt any cars claim that it can go 260mph and remotely resembles a streetable car. I haven't read anything about a production model that is faster then the F1 231mph top speed. But it would be cool if that were true

well if your talkin about top end. of course the supra is goin to win cuse the skyline needs alot more horsepower then the supra does to break 200mph. the skylines aero dynamic's are like a brick. put if you go autocrossing. then the skyline would murder the supra. being the fastest sports coupe in the world. when the supra has no title at all. hmmmmmmm plus it didn't sell too well and how its discontinued even in japan. that reallly says alot about cars. only the best cars survive in japan cause they know hat is fast and what is not. sooooooo since ths stock supra has such crappy traction and handling, thats why it runs high 13's and sometimes low 14's even with soo much torque. soooo in stock wise, the only car that can beat the skyline in straight line speed would be the nsx. handling wise. once again, the skyline would murder that toyota. plus i rarely ever see people boost their supra's over 1000hp. mean while i see a boat load of skylines breakin the 1000hp point where when you see a 700hp skyline them seem very tame. meanwhile you see a 700hp supra your ike wow, thats alot for a supra. you seee what i mean? plus given the reputation? i dunno, the skyline has a waaaay longer and better rep then the supra.

oh yeah gangstarr, what did the supra boys say? i wanna see some of the bias opinions that they come up with, cuse off the top of my head, i don't really see any advantages that a supra has over the gt-r. all i think off is aerodynamics, the extra torque which does shit for the aceleration anyways, and an engine thats .6 liters bigger which makes it heavier. i dunno.

I personally like the Supra better, since i've never really even seen a skyline in person.
but everybody knows that Supras have crazy strong stock internals

and there are also boat loads of supras that are over 900hp

a supra with 600hp isn't all that special

I think just BPU mods bring it to somewhere near 500hp


The only real advantage that i see from the skyline is the AWD system


the supra that has the top speed record is TOTALLY modded, from what i remember it didn't have all that much horsepower either, but it was incredibly light.
It doesn't look close to stock either, it's alot wider.


when did they discontinue the supra in japan?
didn't they just stop like this year? since they're going to be makin the new generation supra, 4000GT or whatever they're goin to call it

they stoped makin teh supra alittle before the R34 came out in japan i believe. it got killed off alittle later then the gto did. but yes i do admit that hte stock engine block ont eh supra is just as strong as the gt-r, but its tranny is no where near as strong. people with 900+ hp supras usually eats up a tranny a week. plus it has soo much problems gettin all that power to the ground. and i'm not really feelin the stock look of hte supra. the modded ones loo hot, but after i've seen soo many videos of skylines killin off supra's stock, and how the supra has slow aceleration, but is rather quick once it has a rolling start. what am i sayin? i dunno, hahahah i just love the skyline more, i can't really find any weakness in that car. besides the aerodynamics. but i don't mind cuse that gives it that aggressive in your face look.

some people even say the Supra was over engineered, because it can take so much punishment.




I think this is the supra i was talkin about, it actually does have alotta horsepower, just over 1000hp i think
It's modified by jun, i think it's called the Jun Bonneville Supra
and it laid down 250mph

yeah thats the world famous JUN supra that ran the salts. that was the first supra that i have ever seen that broke the 1000+ barrier. when i first saw it i didn't believe that a supra could do that. i thought that the 1000+ horsepower club was skyline exclusive. heh

The only thing i don't like about the Supra is the traction issue, so it's harder tougher for a good drag, not as consistant. But the top end is really good.
The auto supra doesn't have that problem though because of it's traction control

I would probably take an R34 over a supra stock... but since they're not available here, supra all the way

maybe this comparison should be Supra Vs. R33 cause those 2 were supposed to compete with each other right?

when did the R34 come out in japan? I'm 100% sure that they made Supras in 1999 models (in japan, not state side). and i'm not positive about this, but i think they had 2000 models too

the R34 debuted in 1999 or 98. i forgot which one. but if you look at Bestmotoring international. its a japanese auto video magazine. they race every new and exisiting japanese car. since i've seen them stop using the supra when the R34 debuted i assumed that toyota stoped making them. but i'll look into it again. and by the way the R34 would murder the supra becsue the R34 is very mcuh a superior car to the R33 where the lap time is improved by exactly 3 seconds at the track they used in bestmotoring. i'll keep you posted on the supra situation though. unless some supra expert comes in and confirms it.
