Yes, it's definitely a "chick car"

Yes, I own a '92, and it is clearly (whatever) a chick car (is).
I've got a GT in mint condition. It's a good car...maybe a very good car in terms of reliability, parts friendliness, etc...but...
It is underpowered, handles like a slightly smaller Camry (that's good for grandma) and I certainly understand why people like that predictable, neutral, lifeless soul-free type of feel. It's a "sporty" well-built non-sports car, and I have nothing against it (I'm driving one, right?). I think you could call it a "chick car" (no disrespect intended toward females and/or baby chickens) because it's a comfortable, front-wheel drive, extremely easy to drive car with a spoiler on the back... appealing to younger people and yes (to sight a stereotype) young women who want a car they think is cute and sporty, yet takes no effort to drive. I had comparable models from the lines of VW & Nissan, and they were a ton more driving car than the Celica, but they are not so grandma-friendly in the driving department. I've traded driving pleasure for a bit more reliability and parts friendliness. Not complaining here, but we're driving chick cars. BY THE WAY, THE NEWER CELICAS ARE ABOUT THE CHICKEST CHICK CARS EVER MADE. I personally think the body style is a real step backwards for Toyota (great for kids who want to fill it with speakers and have light shows going around the license plates and stuff). Just my opinion. These are pleasant cars to drive, but let's not pretend that they're not catering to 16 year-old girls with this model. CHICK CAR CHICK CAR!

Well for one i think celicas are somewhat a chick car but not to bad. If you get it with a standard transmission then you can just burn anyone that tell syou its a chick car. Now if you get a automatic tranny then you shouldnt buy the car at all you might as well just go out and get a jetta becuz u might as well be a chick.

ok kids, lookee here. the supra, ALL YEARS, were rear wheel drive. every single year. all celicas past 85 were front wheel drive. except all-tracs of course. you could get the supra engine in, possibly, but the problem is getting a transmission that would work. either get one made for you, or do a rwd conversion.

Re: A Chick Car?

by calling the celica a chick car you are saying that it's whimpy, no fense girls, if your saying that it the car all the girls like then i'm down with that because i dont mind giving a hot chick in a wet bikini a ride home, although once i get mine its only gunna have the 2 front seats so sorry to all her friends, haha. but the fact that the car is small is a bonus, i mean you dont want some big old cadillac on the track , oh god that'd suck, its a small car making it lighter and alot sportier looking, as for the convertables in older generations those damn things are ugly, but i'd jus keep the celica at a good standard just because toyota makes good vehicles and the celica is the supra's lil cousin. and the automatic is plenty enough to handle some competition at the track, the manual is a sure shot to beat some loud mouth, and dont mess with the jetta those things are nice especially mine(2003 Black jetta w/ turbo) first time actually driving it, man the gas is to touchy for how loose the clutch is, it needs a racing clutch.
