Ive been wanting to do this for a while now, and i think im actually going to. One questions though, what kind of clear-coat should i use? I have seen several levels of gloss, and i dont know what kind i should use.

I did this exact thing on my dash vents and speaker grills on my Sentra. I chose a dk blue color, and took my time. It turned out great.

My advice would be to take your time. Do not rush any step. And make sure that you do lots of light coats of paint. Heavy coats will not turn out as nicely.

I did this as well, but having my car a custom color that definatly isn't in Home Depot was a bit of a hinderance. I ended up taking a photo of my cara nd giving it to one of the high end paint stores in town. The made me a great paint and gave it to me in a bucket and a spray can, so I could spray the big stuff and do little details as well. I don't have a clearcoat on it yet, as I still have another coat of the paint to go, but I'll be done with it soon, I hope.

My paint costs about 25 bucks for one pint can and one spray can. I've used 1 & 1/2 pints and 2 cans so far and still need another seveal coats on some. It's expesive but impressive considering my rare car color.

I'd be interested in how long this takes to wear off as mentioned before. And pictures? Anyone? What kinds of clear coat/paint did you use? The quality of the paint I'm going to assume has a difference? And how many light coats as "LOTS" was stated?

Use Krylon Fusion paint. Its around 4 or 5 for a can I think. I used black on the vents in my neon and they look sweet, without clearcoat too. But be sue to totally sand everything, I kinda rushed through it and it bubbled and spread in some areas...so thats not cool. But I got it fixed.
That paint is highly recommended. Consumer Reports gave it #1 for plastic paints too.

Re: Cheap interior upgrade

I don't know about you guys, but I'm willing to take the risk for that custome look. I'm in the middle of painting the interior of my neon, i still have to make a few touch ups but here is my car so far. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/398228

Re: Cheap interior upgrade

it won't wear if you sand it down well enough, and use a decent quality paint.

just did a half ass version of this (2 coats, no clearcoat) in my 88 blazer and it looked awesome. I go for more of a rustic/hic looking truck but the chrome paint on my vents goes along with the metalic trim so well!

Re: Cheap interior upgrade

Does anybody know how I can customize my 88 acura legend? I'm trying to figure out what performance parts I can add to it or any ways I could change the interior. I'm trying to take the leather seats of the back and add new ones, and also put racing seats, but I don't think they have mounts for this model. also I'm trying to figure how I can put a better looking bodykit, cause they have very, very, very few for a model that old

PLEASE HEEEEEEELP!!!!

Re: Cheap interior upgrade

I have an Acura Legend, its pretty beat up, but I decided I was gonna put some love into it, but I'm kinda lost where to start, so here is a list, plz help me.

How to paint dashboard?
How to install racing seats? is 88 after all
Can I install any new kind of gauges for it?
Changing interior carpet?
How to remove stains from carpets or seats?
What are the best products for cleaning?

Check my page out, Thanks a lot
