Re: Who here works out??

I asked a personal trainer the same question a while back, and he told me the best thing to do would be to run or somthing of the sort cardiovascular, but do it with a steady pace sprinting to top speed sometimes. He said that changing your heart rate like that will give you a higher metabolism.

Why does dark beer have to have so many more calories than light beer? I bust my ass at the gym everyday. Run 2-3 miles, lift weights, stretch, use the eliptical trainer, AND dance Mon for 1hr1/2, Tues 2 1/2 hrs, Thurs 3 1/2 hrs, Sat 1 1/2 hr. If I had done this before I started drinking I'd look aneorexic. I think that in heaven, beer makes you lose weight.

if you're doing all that most days of the week then its clear why you're not losing much weight or gaining much muscle. You're overtraining waaaaaayy too much. your body cannot handle weights AND long distance jogs AND all that dancing at the same time. Your body is holding onto as much fat as it can because it feels that there may be a shortage of essential basic fats coz of all the exercise you're doing. Cut back on the workouts, try and keep it around 3 days of weights per week and the other 4 days for just running or dancing but not both on the same day.

Re: Who here works out??

I'm on the bigger, faster, stronger plan at school for next football season. I'm trying to gain maybe 30 pounds of muscle, as the coach wants me to play linebacker. Usually its 3 sets of ten reps, and when we're lifting competitively, i.e. to build muscle fast, its usually 3 sets of 3 reps. Mostly working on my explosiveness and speed, while trying to increase upper body strength, and lower body stamina.

w3rd!!

Not bothering to go to the gym has reminded me of what a waste of time and money it is.

I've lost more weight from walking to Uni 3 times a day (about a 5-10 minute walk and a hill) and town (involves a big hill) around once a day-once every two days. Of course there is also my eating, which while isn't healthy- also isn't excessive.

And If I want to tone up? I've got 90 kg's to work with that I got for free (i.e. My body weight).

FUCK THE GYM!

30 pounds of muscle?????? sorry mate, ain't gonna happen unless you train for a few years. you can't just put on 30lbs of muscle overnight, it takes a long time to gain some serious muscle which is why most people give up and stop going to gym, because they're too impatient to put in the years of dedication and work. Also, 3 sets of 3 reps????? your couch doesn't seem like he knows much about putting on muscle mate. you'd be putting on muscle much faster and more efficiently working in a rep range between 4-8 maybe even 10 but not 3 reps, thats just ridiculous.

well you may be happy with what you got naturally. others like me on the other hand want to keep improving their body to a level beyond what you can do with just your own bodyweight. Look at it this way, in 2 years of training at home with your own bodyweight and such exercises will be LUCKY at most if they yield the same muscle gains as working out 6 months in the gym will, let alone the balance in your muscles, ie having huge arms but small twig like legs. now who would be wasting time here??? the guy working 2 years or the guy who can get the same results in 6 months. You guys just seem to impatient, it takes a long time to grow your muscles right and anyone who works out regularly will tell you that.
