Are you going to weld up your torque boxes. With that amount of power, you might want to think about it

I'm going to assume you meant to post that in a different thread Skyline. Unless I'm wrong.

Also I don't see many 5.0/ 5-speed/ Notches for sale so I may be doing it in a hatch either way. I've started my search as of yesterday. My baby is gone after this weekend. Hopefully the roads are clear enough I can rip it up one more day before it goes to it's new home.
I know of two GT's for sale around here. One is an auto though, but its 100% bone stock, might be able to get it for $2400. The other is slightly modded, but at a cheap price, around $2000 I think.

I so wanted to go for a ride in your car before you sold, Damnit it all to hell!!

I've been racing Mustangs for 18 years now- 13s are not difficult with a stock car.As long as you don't have 2.73s of course.Driver skill is what you need to work on,not the car.A stock 5.0 coupe, stripper(no a/c,pw,pdl,and no damn boom box) on a decent set of DRs can pretty easily hit 13s as long as you can launch reliably and hit the shifts fast and where you want them.My own car with ET streets and skinnies, nothing but a cheap set of used unequal-length shortys,14 degrees,a short belt and the front sway pulled off was good for 13.88 @ 97.52 mph at a near sea level track. This was a speed density '88 coupe-SDs are definitely faster out of the box.A set of 3.73s and a Mac control arm setup got it down to 13.52 @ 98.91 after a lot of practice.Of course,I also had the pass seat pulled for the run...

All shifts were at 55-5600 rpm,no higher.LOTS of time practicing.Like two years.

Good luck-it'll be nice to hear about a car that's NOT a rolling tribute to the aftermarket

How wide were the tires that came with the 5.0's stock? 225's? Are you gonna run those?? How about short belt? Will that count as stock still? Does K&N drop in filter keep the car stock or nah?

Also, isn't the GT considerably slower stock cuz of the body kit and suspension or something?

But ya, your project sounds pretty awesome! I'm excited.

Re: Project Idea

Let's see I think I can answer these now, since having discussed this matter with GTStang.

Stock 5.0's came with Goodyear 225's, so a similar street will be used to simulate the exact time used at time of purchase.

K&N was not stock, so the first runs will done on a completely bone stock vehicle, right down to the filter and silencer. But I'm positive, that the basic freebie's will be utilized after a base run has been acquired.

A short belt will not be used at first, but I can see it being a possibility after a few runs to see what kinda gains are achieved from this freebie. Although there is the option that the vehicle being purchased comes stock without AC, so that's one less power robbing accessory.

The only Difference between the GT, LX 5.0, and Coupe 5.0 is the ground FX and style. No suspension components differ. So the goal is to find a Notch, cause of it's lightest weight.

Be assured this is going to be well thought out, and an extensive search for the "right" vehicle will be done.

Oh and GTStang, that guy wants 2g's for that coupe I was telling you about. Interested?
