IPMS Houston is mostly guys from Hobby Island. I get all my modeling paint and supplies form there. They are the best in terms of having good items stocked and fairly decent price. IF you join IPMS, you get a 10% discounts from Hobby Island since most of them are from there anyways. IPMS meets every 2nd thursday of every month at the west side police station on Dairy Ashford and Richmond. But most of them are military builders like Malsheem said. Good bunch of guys and they're pretty knowledgable since soem of them build professionally. As far as organization goes, well, i think they are alright. But they do need updating on thier sites and stuff.

As for MCMA, i've heard of them and i think are mostly in Dallas and other Texas cities. I don't know how they compare to IPMS, but would be cool if there were more clubs in Houston. Given that it's such a big city, i'm suprised there aren't more clubs. But i'll check out HAMS though.

Scott, where exactly and when is the Austin contest? Who's holding it and what is the scope of this contest? National? Local? I'm sure we all want to hear more about this, more info please? Thanks.

Yes, sugarcaddy, details on the Austin show would be cool. I think I remember seeing a flyer for it. Isn't it sometime in April or May of 2004?

I sent an e-mail to John. Try to get some more info about HAMS.

Hey, if you guys want to meet up, we could do that. Get to know all the local AF guys. Maybe sometime next week, during the week like Tues (6th) or Weds (7th). Since most are situated on the West side, we could meet at Fox & Hound, D&B, Jillian's, or something like that. Let me know.

Yup, it's baffling how Houston doesn't have more clubs (and shows). You'd think the 4th/5th largest city in the US would have more And you can't go a 1/2 mile without seeing some customized car on the road, be it import tuners, domestics, lowriders, or bling SUV's. So it's not like there isn't any automotive interest in this city.

There are several shows going on at the beginning of the year. There is an IPMS show in San Antino on Feb 28th and an IPMS show in Austin on May 1st. You can go over to www.ipmsusa.org to get details. Also we (MCMA-which is Dallas based) are having a contest on March 20th. Go to www.themcma.com for more details.

I had that idea, too. I'd be up for it.

Hobby Island

The only aftermarket wheels they have are Fujimi (small, ugly ones), Pegasus Hobbies, and Hoppin Hydros. They don't have many.

You might try to have the guys at Hobby Island order you some sets of rims. I have a Hobby Town USA near me (well 20 miles close) and I am friends with one of the guys that work there and he can order anything I want from the catalogs.... just a thought!

Meeting

Houston (and surrounding areas) AF'ers, rmg313 and myself are meeting up at M&M Hobby Center on Saturday (3/20/04) at 4pm. If anyone wants to join us, feel free to come. Just a face to face meeting of AF members; nothing fancy.

Reviving my old thread from the dead. It's '05, so I figured I'd try another meet-up for this year. Last year's turnout was ... well, let's leave that in the past.

So if any local AF'ers are interested in gathering: chill, talk models, talk cars, or whatever (no politics or religion), let it be known. Post here or PM me.

Welcome to AF, local modeler. You'll find that AF tends to speed up (drastically) people's return to modeling. Consider yourself warned.

If I win the lottery, I'll pay for everyone's airfare for a global AF meeting.
