here in montreal, quebec its SUPPOSED to be 100 km/h(60mph) on highways and 90 km/h on 2 lane roads but on the highways you can drive at 115-120 km/h and you wont get pulled over. And since its pothole country up here, if you did susp. mods on your car you better watch these holes...

Re: Whats your speed limit
In Virginia, its 65MPH on most stretches of interstate, 55MPH on 2 lane highways and divided highways. On the interstate the amount you can speed totally depends on which interstate you are on (I-81, I-66, I-64, I-95, etc)
and where on that interstate you are. In general though, you can go 75MPH and be safe. With radar detectors illegal, cops using radar detector detectors, and the phasing in of more andmore laser use, you really have to be careful because the Virginia State Police cover I-81, I-66, and I-95 like hawks. Sometimes 4 and 5 cops in a 10-15miles stretch. They also will call in other cops for multi-car stops. I've seen them pull over as many as 6 cars with 4 officers on I-81 before. As for the 55MPH zones, you typically have to watch for county and town sheriffs more than the state police, except on heavily traveled divided highways like US 460 and US 50. As I'm sure you all know, each county and town is different, so its a much trickier game on these roads. Also, down in southwestern VA where I go to college, many of the roads really don't allow traffic to go faster and sometimes you can't even go the speed limit due to windy, off camber turns. Many sections of US 33 and US 11 have nothing but a ditch on either side of the road, sometimes no lines on the road, are twisty-turny and still have a 55MPH speed limit. I really wish they would up our interstate speed limit to 70 or 75MPH, though.

In NJ it’s still 55mph most hiways. The “unposted rule” is 25-city / 50-higway. There are a few stretches of interstate 80, 95, 78, etc, where it’s 65, but get this:
The fine amount & points are DOUBLED in those areas, and it is supposed to be “zero tolerance”, that means you can get ticketed for 66. And it gets worse. The zero tolerance rule is selectively enforced, so you never know. Then they started abusing the “double fine” law, by doubling fines for everything, not just speeding in 65 zones and construction zones. So if you get written-up for, say, passing without directional, or no seatbelt, or a burnt taillight, those are also doubled. Generally, they’ll let the flow of traffic go to 69 on the interstates. There’s so much traffic around here that it’s not safe to drive over 70 anyway. Some idiot will ALLWAYS pull into your lane in front of you at 45. |

Re: Whats your speed limit
I had a buddy who was in law enforcement and what I was always told was "9 your fine 10 your mine."
I have followed this rule of thumb for the past 12 years (most of the time) and have had no tickets so far. ; )

Here in Scotland it's 70mph for roads out of town, 30mph and 40mph for residential areas, we got a problem here with speed cops and a load of cameras.
Although i've seen myself doing 10mph over the limit through a speed check area and the police didn't seem too fussy. |

Re: Whats your speed limit
75 65 to 55 the closer you get to the city on the interstate. No cameras, just cops that let you off a lot. I usually keep a steady 15 over the limit wherever i go and i have not had tickets. Usually the only time people get tickets is when cops are specifically looking for speeders.

Re: Whats your speed limit
It ranges from 55 to 75mph on I-5 around here.
It'll change at a moments notice to. I hate it. I wish we had driving set up like it is in someparts of Europe.

Re: Whats your speed limit
i live in baltimore maryland and the highest speed limit we have is 55 on the beltway...and yeah 55 isn't fast enough. but you can go 65 with no worries of being pulled over...but most people go over 70...i usually floor it through the 'on ramp' and get up to about 80 and just let off until i get around 65 because radar is never set up around there...you have to watch going under the bridges on 210...if you see an abundance of immobile cars on the sides...i'd make use of my brakes because it's definately radar.

"In Sask. it's like, 70kmh haha... oh man it sucks here. I'm probably not 100% correct on this, but I believe that it's about 52mph. Could someone correct me?"
Sask by Saskatchewan? Highways are 120Km/h here. |

On major freeways I usually drive 80-85 MPH on good traffic conditions. In the city I usually drive 40-50 MPH. Anyone that stands in my way I just steer clear around them and maintain speed. It is my phylosophy that I should not be accountable for someone holding me up.
At some stop signs and lights when there's someone who is itching to challenge me in a drag, I usually go 60-70+ and hold it for like 10 secs until someone looses. Of course I ALWAYS obey the speedlimit when my Radar is on. But when it's off and visual contat is clear I ADD 15mph to the speed limit. The fastest I've ever gone is in a WS6 1999 Firebird at a top speed of 150 MPH. 150 is my limit for top speed and anything higher and your are asking for death. |

Re: Whats your speed limit
10%+2 is the rule the cops use in the UK, so if the limit is 40MPH, you should get away with 46MPH if the traffic is light....47 and you're booked. 70MPH and you will get away with 79...80 and you're booked. Easy.

Re: Whats your speed limit
It seems like the 10%+2 gets put into practice around here. Only bad thing is it depends on what mood the cop's in when they're on the prowl.
