Re: American Drifters and their 240s

maybe we can learn something? right.

do you know anything about probes?
they're unibody cars. there's no where to put your titanium inserts to stiffen the body.
there's no front frame to widen. which is why i asked about the subframe. which would not need widening, b/c a 350 is narrower than the stock motor is "wide" the way it's mounted. so there's no issue there.
rear cv joints? you know the suburban is a solid axle vehicle, right?
what'd you do for suspension? how did you brace the rear end? did your steering rack clear the engine? where'd you route the exhaust?
did you use the stock probe or stock suburban suspension?
explain how stuffing inserts into a frame and not mounting them solidly inside of it (bolts, etc.) would make it stiffer? it'd beat itself to death and fall apart.

if you want to upload pics, you can so here, or you can go to www.cardomain.com and register there. putting pics up is easy, and it tells you how to do it. i'd love to see this GM powered - Ford bodied - Mazda chassis.

2stroke...

why are you worried?
it's an online forum. people talk.
things come up. it's called a segue.
i think everyone here in this thread wants to know the answers.
do we really need to start a new topic and clog the server more than it already is to ask this guy about his "proburban"?

come on...

don't worry about it.

ok, so after a long hard trial, we now have a new, on-topic thread about this proburban. and even though it's not really in the right forum, it concerns the people here and i don't know where else to put it...

so continue. i want to see COLD HARD EVIDENCE of this car, because as it stands, this guy is talking out of his chocolate starfish.

oh, and keep it civilized and flame-less or i'll bring out the padlocks.

btw, i HATE the new "split threads" feature...took me half an hour and 4 messed up threads to split this bloody thing, so be grateful!

Re: The Infamous Probe-Urban

ha... thanks for getting it out there for us...

i'd love to see pics...

oh yeah, one more thing.

there was never a suburban with a v6 in it.

the only gm truck that was offered with a v6 was the silverado c/k series... (i know, the s-series trucks too, but i'm talking fullsize)

putting a v6 in a suburban is like putting a 4 cylinder in a hummer. have fun with that...

so did you get some special v6 sub that doesn't move under it's own power b/c it has none?

hmm...

Re: The Infamous Probe-Urban

Don't know why I read this thread, but I did.
Now I am truly interested in one thing Drifter S*E*, how the hell did you weld titanium to steel?

Aside from an automotive standpoint, from an engineering standpoint I think this whole deal is a figment of your imagination.

This is insane, there is a suburban with a V6 motor, look it up; it was a 1998 suburban LS the top of the line model, leather seats CD power everything three rows of seats stock subs in the back next time Im on here I will get you the VIN number to look up to show that this SUV was actually totalled. As far as pictures I will try to do that car domain thing; Im also going to put my insurance papers up on this forum to to show that the city is paying for the probe and the upgraded V6 its about $9,000 no probe stock or even lightly modified is worth that.
The exhaust was routed directly under the were the floor panels and we made the pipes an oval shape instead of a round shape to get more clearance then they ran right together throught the stock moldings in the rear.We braced the rear suspension because my uncle thought that the stock set up would shread to pieces, the probe body has an under trey with to main bars running to the back of the car the inserts were put in them and then a cap over each of them. we used stock struts and new springs then we put rubbers in the coils to stiffen them up.now I can email someone some pictures easy if get an address.Trust me I have no reason to make any of this stuff up I did the conversion to have fun over the summer and see if it could be done and I never would have brought it up if you wouldnt have asked Im not trying to impress any one on this forum, you guys.......I repeat YOU GUYS pressed the issue!! not me, take the the truth for what it is.........THE TRUTH! But I do enjoy you guys trip in over this whole probe suburban thing. I can under stand were certain things dont add up its crazy I still dont under stand alot of what my uncle did to the car but it is interesting isnt it.

Re: The Infamous Probe-Urban

Oh about the titanium being welded to steel I said that wrong it was the slots that held them into place that was actually weld onto the car. common sense should have told you that little bit thats why the car vibrated so much like I told you before.

Re: The Infamous Probe-Urban

why the hell would chevy put a v6 into their top of the line suburban?
you're on crack. seriously. they had a 350 or a 454 in them.
the exhaust went under the floor, which would give you ZERO clearance under the car.
i'm sure you'll get an addy to email to. but not from me. i happen to know the truth... sorry. you're a liar.

the stock rear setup is control arms in the rear, or a lower arm with a strut. so how did you adapt it to the suburban solid rear axle? stock coils with that axle? you'd sit on the ground. the probe wasn't made for that.

what did you do to strengthen the body? did you build a rear subframe?

hell, i gave you the link to kugel, where you could bolster your lie with the things they did with the focus. and you haven't. you're lying.

get it over with. admit it. you're going to look alot better if you do it now instead of dragging it out...

i can't wait to see what happens when dorikin reads this... hehe

Okay, now why don't you dig yourself a deeper hole?
How do you weld a slot?
A slot is, in engineering practices, a hollow or rectangular hole, how the hell do you weld a hole?

Let's cut the bullshit, I am an engineer with a background in automotive tooling and fabrication.

The only way you would be able to add titanium stiffeners to the frame would be to bolt them in place, this would not give you as much strength as welding steel stiffeners in place.
With the amount of torque and vibration you're talking about the bolts would literally vibrate and tear their way out of the steel that they are in anyway.

How did you adapt the Probe chassis to allow a rear wheel drive train to be fitted?
How much did you have to narrow the Suburban's axle to fit the wheels in the wheel arches?

Like Fly said, give it up.

You know maybe you guys are right, maybe my mind was telling me wrong....maybe my cognition cells are doing what my imaginative cells are suppose to do. I dont know....Any how Im through, finished, done tired of explaining the probe urban...myth.
But seriously I do need you guys help, I got my new 240sx and I need advice on how to begin to build it in to a drift machine. I have about $5,897.65 in the bank to spend on the car.So the question is, for about $6000 what can I do to the 240 to get me drifting right, ASAP?
The car all ready has tein springs, 7point roll cage and 16in rims.the previous owner did that to the car. it is the coupe version. This thing has no stereo no power windows no sunroof no power locks no a/c unit, it is as stock as you're going to get. Please hook me up with some useful info about what I can do to the car..
