Re: SVT focus VS. 02-03 SI

Hey, both cars are pretty similar, it all comes down to what you grew up around. If you love fords, then the focus is for you, and the same for hondas. But if you really think about it, the focus body style came out before the new Si body style did. So I say Honda needs some new designers, cuz to me the 2 cars look almost identical. The SVT has a slighter advantage over the Si, check out the numbers at the manufacturers sights.

Re: SVT focus VS. 02-03 SI

honda drivers can't drive their cars...... neither can focus drivers...... my car is a '03 zx2 and ive beat both..... the svt was 2 car lengths behind... and the '99 civic was 3.... and again, that is a broad statement w/ the whole honda and focus drivers can't drive thing so don't jump on my ass cuz there are exceptions...

and before you say it i will, my car has 130 hp not at the wheels at the flywheel. the svt has 170 at the flywheel and that civic had 160 at the flywheel. so yes, technically, i should be slower.....

Re: SVT focus VS. 02-03 SI

well letrs put it this way:
02+ Si = 15.7
99-00 Si = 15.4
SVT = 15.3
ZX2 = 15.7

(times are all with a good driver)

I am pretty sure that the 160 the civic has is at the wheel. Japanese like to measure HP at the wheels, where as american and european companies measure it at the flywheel (makes it seem like theres more power).

im runnin 163 at the wheels right now, and its about to increase by 75%

Re: SVT focus VS. 02-03 SI

There has been a comparison done in motor trend or car & driver on these two vehicles along with a few others. The SVT Focus beat the Civic Si in the 1/4 mile by like .1 second. There really isn't that much difference when they are stock.

Re: SVT focus VS. 02-03 SI

Yea, japanese like to measure the usable power. Thats why you hear about the skylines with a monster 276 hp for the GT-R's....most people think that that is at the flywheel, when its really at the wheel. It has low 300 hp at the wheels.

Re: SVT focus VS. 02-03 SI

lol if it was 160 at the wheels it would be a 14sec car lol

they have to change ratings when they sell a car in the US. Otherwise a Type-R integra would have been a 13sec car instead of high 14's

Re: SVT focus VS. 02-03 SI

so when they market the japanese cars in the US they put at the flywheel as well? maybe they only market whp in the JDM. lame. but that definatly makes more sense to me now

Re: SVT focus VS. 02-03 SI

hell yeah fordesigner, I know for a fact. I took my SVT Focus out at Infineon and was cutting the corners like a hot knife through butter. Stock, the SVT will annihilate the Si in corners, straights I think it will be close.

Re: SVT focus VS. 02-03 SI

K, listen...they will tell you how much power these cars make off the flywheel, because it's higher! Plain and simple ad-copy. Numbers sell!
For those of you talking about the Civic being faster because it can rev higher, is just plain stupidity. The SVT is geared a little higher than the Honda (over all)...numerically, the Honda is geared WAY lower, because it has the extra 1000RPM to work with. Think of it this way...if you drive a deisel that redlines at 4500RPM, it would have to be geared way higher to attain the same speeds...
Vice-versa for a vehicle that revs to 14,000RPM

Re: SVT focus VS. 02-03 SI

Didn't Ford used to measure power "with all things running?" That's how my old Escort was measured (90 hp, 106 tq). But "all things running" is at the end of the transmission, of if you like to call it the wheels, go right ahead. They also had the a/c running, bright lights on, rear defroster, wipers, stereo on full, blower motor running on full, and cooling fan on. They also had power steering running, and my car put 90 hp to the wheels. Sound strange? That's how cars in the 80's were measured. Maybe something changed.
