Very cool looking and promising project you got there, Guido

So now the 2 Belgian representatives in WRC are being modelled by Belgians We should do some kind of exposition together

Can't wait to see you progress. Maybe I'll come to see your work IRL one of these days (if you let me). St Truiden is only half an hour away Or I invite you to my place. If you have the time to take a look at my 1100 models that is

We should do that. Now summer time is nearing its end, I should have more time available to do some decent modeling again. Oh and I have some ideas of doing an expo together

This one will be a slow build I reckon, since the only experience I have in resin is a 1/43 Xsara I did once. But that's not gonna stop me of course.

So, here's an update on the Huyndai progress. A lot slower then I anticipated, but business is keeping me away from modeling too much for my taste lately. Oh well, one can't have it all. Anyways, I keep on working on it and I'll keep you guys in the loop

Since I'm lacking enough experience in the resin field, I'm testing and trying stuff, so the building order might not make too much sense to some, this is how I'm tackling it. Once completed, I'll write a more structured report on my site.

Resin needs to have a good 'under-surface' for the paint to stick on, so cleaning/preparing all resin parts is the first task. I started with the chassis for a simple reason. The surface is pretty straightforward so after preparing/filling with Tamiya putty and sanding, I put down the first layer of primer. Tamiya primer white from a spraycan!! Go figure, Huudo starts using spraycans, and I must admit, it works very well!

I also had a look at the dash. After cleaning in a soapy water, I sprayed 1 coat of primer to check for imperfections. There are not too many, so a little attention is needed here.

The seats are tricky. In some areas, they are so thin, that I immediately sanded though them So putty was used, but not an easy one, since it's in a difficult place. Oh well, once painted and covered with kevlar decal on the back, it'll come good.

The wheels also need a lot of attention for preparation. After washing one - as a test case - in the soapy water, I didn't wait long enough to let it dry, so nasty airbubble-like spots in difficult corners were the result. Good lesson learned here and thankfully it was only 1 rim. Now I know how to do the other four...

As seen on the earlier pics, the body needs a lot of cleaning and prep. I'll let the pictures speak here for themselves. There is still a long way to go on this one...

Hopefully the next update won't take that long

Looks good, you've come a long way, but to me, all that work isn't worth it, that's just my H.O., still I want to see this finished.

I have this kit and am currently decaling the body. Havn't finished the interior yet. Luckily mine didn't have as many airbubbles and such on the body, and the line across the rear bumper wasn't nearly as bad. But, the seats on mine are also very thin. Good luck with the build up...i can't wait to see how it turns out.

Looking good Guido!
I'm waiting for more your resin expirience because I have one resin kit on desk and I'm, same as you, unexpirienced with it.

Guido,

Agree with hrmodeler, looking good so far, I've also started mine, as well as the Le Mans MG and the Audi R8, do a bit on one, wait for paint to harden for a few days, so start on something else.
Chassis is complete on mine, no major problems except for I had a bit of trouble getting the body low enough over the chassis, quite a lot of sanding around the inside at the rear as I recall.
Body is also silver now (didn't have the rear bumper problem you've had, that looks really nasty!), waiting for masking to paint the red, not sure what to do about the green yet, use all decals, mask and paint it all (but what colour?) or a bit of both.

Steve

Steve,

What Silver did you use? I'm planning on using Testors Silver enamel?
And another thing that is bothering me, how to detail the bottom od the car? I don't have ref pics for that, so it's a bit of guessing, not that there is a lot of detail there, but anyhow. I think 2 plates front and rear should be CF and some suspension parts might be gun metal or so. Any ideas?

Guido,

The silver I used was Halfords automotive spray-Aluminium, also not too sure about underside detail, most rally cars nowadays have titanium skid plates underneath that create the impressive sparks when cutting corners on tarmac rallies so the sump and rear diff guards may also be a shade of silver.

Finaly got around to scanning these pictures that are the best I have of the Hyundai underside bash plates. Looks like the rear plate is at least partly kevlar, while the front is bare metal.
