I cannot remember all the details but you can import a vehicle but... you have to have owned it for a period of time (I think it is one year) in the country (ie. Japan, Europe) and then imported it as you primary car. The car then has to meet federal emmision testing. There are often military personel who bring back cars in this way, but to just import a vehicle there is not much of a chance of getting it registered

This topic has come up so often in the Skyline forums I've posted a sticky about it. Since it is here and not there and am not going to go nato on the guy but if you guys want to know about skylines then visit the right area.
The short version of the topic. The Canadian authorities have been contacted by MotoRex on this issue and were told "We contacted the Canadian authorities and they told us that there was no direct import of non-originally complying vehicles." http://www.motorex.net/faq.html#4 Now LadyLuke I have no idea what the heck your talking about. You sound like another il-informed person. There is no difference in the Skylines in the States that have been LEGALLY complied than those anywhere else in the world except the few modifications MotoRex has to perform to make them DOT legal.

Ah but read the closer. Most people are not interested in the GTS-X's or early model GTS turbos as there were quite a bit of problems with them sorted out in the R32. The R31's are more or less collecters cars if you will or run about cars. Most a shagged beyond normal driving though some good examples can be still found.
here is what the site says. Importing vehicles from countries other than the United States According to Transport Canada, vehicles manufactured to meet the safety requirements for countries other than Canada and the United States do not comply with the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act, can NOT be altered to comply and can NOT be imported into Canada. However, vehicles fifteen (15) years old or older as determined by the month and year in which the vehicle was manufactured, and buses that were manufactured before January 1, 1971, are an exception to this rule and CAN be imported into Canada. Vehicles acquired in foreign countries other than the U.S. and designed, built, tested and certified to meet either all applicable Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards or all applicable United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and bearing a statement of compliance label affixed by the original manufacturer, as required by the Regulations, may be eligible for importation into Canada provided the vehicle has not been altered and the certification from the original manufacturer is maintained. The illegal importation of a motor vehicle into Canada is a criminal offense. Inadmissible vehicles will be denied entry into Canada and will be detained. All storage and disposal fees are the responsibility of the importer. Import services that JNS Imports provides JNS Imports will facilitate the import of vehicles that are fifteen (15) years old or older. We will facilitate the process to ensure that each imported vehicle complies with Canadian import laws. Now given that information you will have to wait until Jan of 2005 before you could import the first generation R32. Good luck finding a clean one.

hey ... im from ontario .... not many people know this but any aftermark part installed into a car can be deemed illegal ... the cop has the discretion .... ive seen people peeling off the tint off their windows on the side of the road cause it would cost to much to pay for impounding ... if heard horror storries where people have had their cars impounded and only came out with their tires cause they were the only legal parts .... its pretty fucked up
and i was under the impression that u can have a skyline in the US if it is imported properly and it is modified to become street legal ... but this will put another 30 000 onto the price ... i read it in a thread so i donno

Well if you want one that is legal you will pay for it, pretty simple. Moaning about price won't do any good. Maybe one day the prices will drop

for some dumb reason the govt. says that skylines dont meet DOT and EPA standards. yeah thats a load of crap.
if the skyline is your first choice well id say you dont really deserve it if you are some teenager who is having your parents pay for it all. besides you prolly woudnt know how to appreciate a car like that. no offense but the skylines are not cars you buy just because they look cool and you gain recognition from everyone. if you dont know sh*t about them then WTF are you buyin it for?

However, i wonder if you could get the lancer due to the fact that the mirage is the same body style?
If the body and frame are idnetical to a domestic car, then why not? |
