Re: Transmission Noise
Thanks for reminding me j_cat. Since this seemed to be the most likely suspect, I took it to the transmission shop to have them replace the bushing. However, they put it on the rack, took off the driveshaft and said everything was A-OK. Said the play in the tailshaft was normal and that the seal and bushing were fine.
Didn't charge me for anything either ![]() I still can't understand what the problem could be. After raising the rear and looking at it, it seems that the sound is definitely coming from the tranny end of the driveshaft. Now take note that when I watched the driveshaft spin up, I could see that it has pretty bad balance, it rotates about .25" off center. Could the sound be from it rubbing against the oil seal as it wobbles around? If I can't figure this out I guess I'll just leave it, although it is pretty annoying ![]() Thanks guys, Alex |

Re: Transmission Noise
Can't believe I didn't do this test before, but turns out that when driving at speed, if I put the truck in neutral, both the sound and some resistance completely go away. Put it back in drive and the loud sound and the resistance/friction comes right back. Guess this eliminates the driveshaft/yoke. But what does it signal?
Thanks a bunch, Alex |

Re: Transmission Noise
I'm sorry if I misunderstood but what I believe you're saying is that in neutral, even a sloppy driveshaft will not make much noise?
