Re: WIP: 2CV “Rock and Roll-Bar”
Thanks guys!
Micha, this will be my first project that is more a pain the back than the a$$ ![]() I woke up early and got an hour's work in. I used it to detail the battery. I added some battery posts with 0,7mm soft solder wire and weathered the battery up with some ground up artists pastel chalks. I found this different to work with than MIG pigments - they do not adhere so much and effects build up much slower. I found that slightly wetting the battery with water and then "smudging" the chalk around gave quite a nice effect (at least in my opinion LOL) ![]() The battery was wired with 30 gauge wrapping wire and the Detail Master Battery hardware set. The solder wire was selected for thickness so that the clamps could be slipped on for a cleaner fix. ![]() The battery leads were also weathered with chalk pastels for a more realistic look in keeping with the overall theme of "sloppy building technique" ![]() This shot shows the difference between an non-weathered piece of wire and the finished battery. ![]() Cheers!

Re: WIP: 2CV “Rock and Roll-Bar”
Oh, wow, you even made an impressionistic painting to scale to put in the back.
Color me impressed. |

Cut into thin slices, this kind of solder is also useful for making rivets and bolt heads in less obvious places and it makes quite good fuel and brake lines IMO ![]() The battery posts have been left "long" for the time being ad I will trim them down during final assembly.

Re: WIP: 2CV “Rock and Roll-Bar”
I'm sorry Steven but that looks crap....
Oh wait that's called wheathering right? ![]() ![]() Seriously sensational work, I love the chassis and the exhaust. You achieved such real looking surfaces... really inspirational stuff ![]() Last edited by Decs0105; 04-07-2008 at 02:27 PM. |

Re: WIP: 2CV “Rock and Roll-Bar”
Update - more to convince myself that I have actually done something than because there is something to show
![]() I really thought I had more of this build already done than in fact it turned out - I have spent quite a lot of time painting up fiddly little parts that I had previously ignored such as rear view mirrors, windscreen wipers, filler caps etc. Oh well..... I have managed though to finish the chassis and floor pan (2 separate parts) and glue them together. I think it looks OK. ![]() I was quite happy with how the weathering of the exhaust came out. I used Model Master Gun Metal, some flat clear and then Rustall, black wash and MIG rust powder. I suppose it could have some more rust on it but who's gonna see it anyway ![]() ![]() This is how she looks with the body sat on the chassis: ![]() ![]() I am 99,9% decided that I will leave the hood off on the finished model. Although this will not be strictly true to the original car, it will be in keeping with the overall "openness" of Jean Paul and what is more, the engine bay detailing and weathering will then be visible ![]() He'll look something like this: ![]() Following the advice of Ole, I added a lighter color around the edges of some of the rust spots and he was dead on right - it does look better. Thanks Ole!! ![]() Another thanks goes to Andy who offered to machine an alternator for me. It is a fantastic little jewel of a piece and the final motivation not to put the hood on ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking in ![]() EDIT: Sorry, I screwed up my posting doh ![]()

Re: WIP: 2CV “Rock and Roll-Bar”
The exhaust looks spot-on to me. Very convincing. If you made a diorama you could have the hood sitting beside it in a ditch

Re: WIP: 2CV “Rock and Roll-Bar”
Looking spectacular- and really nearly there. What's missing now, just the roll cage? Everything looks stunning.

![]() ![]() ![]() Going to wire the spark plugs? The battery looks great- that's the kit part? How did you manage the Varta marking? So what's going in the back? Something has to go in the back! A case of wine? A large bail of fine French cannabis? A Fiat 500 with a matching roll cage?
