Re: 2003 Yukon Denali Navigation Radio

JeepGuy...you need to upgrade your AMP and make a few wiring changes at the AMP harness. You need a bose "LUXURY" AMP like the ones found in Denali's, Escalades, and Hummers. I have some part numbers posted above. I had the same problem as you, then i got the right AMP and fixed the wires at the harness, and BINGO!

Here is the manual.........

Re: 2003 Yukon Denali Navigation Radio

Hi all,

Took a lot longer to replace my console than I had planned. The first one I ordered never had the front part shipped, which left me mid project in serious dis-array...

Anyway, I ended up getting a new 04 Escalade console, complete. I've already sold my nav setup in favor of an alpine setup, but have some parts someone here may be interested in. I bought a new console, complete with wiring, amp, mic, 6disc changer, etc. It's never been in a vehicle.

The amp is 15054675. The changer is 15055250. Rear audio controls 15767145. Mic 25705367, and auxillary wiring harness (can't find a part number), but it connects everything in the console (amp, changer, lighter plugs, etc).

I don't check this forum every day, so if you're interested, email me at [email protected]. If I don't get any takers in a few days, I'll probably put it all on eBay. If someone here wants the stuff, I'll sale it all for $600 shipped. Price a few of those parts, and you'll see it's a pretty good deal, especially all in new condition.

Thanks,
Josh

pacethis - How does your door chime and things like that work with your new Alpine setup? Does everything work as if the stock unit is in it? I have a Colorado with the new data bus setup and would like to install some sort of nav unit. I don't have the Bose sound system.

Re: Re: 2003 Yukon Denali Navigation Radio

You'll need the right adapter. Mine was from Circuit City and like $70 or $80. It does an okay job with door chimes, power retention, etc...but not perfect. Occasionally, the doors don't chime, or chime for several seconds after doors are closed. Power retention sometimes stays, sometimes doesn't, occasionally stays even after truck has been locked. It does work fine 99% of the time though...

Re: Re: Re: 2003 Yukon Denali Navigation Radio

By the way, if you're going to install a nav unit anyway, I'd highly suggest going the factory route. It's going to be a better product for the money. Since you don't have the bose setup, you'd need the new amp, and maybe the speakers (I sold all the speakers from mine, including sub, for around $100). The right amp will cost you $300-400 (I have one available as of now) and you can get the nav hu on eBay for ~1500. Maps, etc will cost you another $200. All in all, it's not a cheap venture, but it is a nice setup.

I just decided I didn't really need nav, so I went with an alpine mp3 deck. Put the money towards a new console and some other things...

Re: CD Changer

[quote=jeepguy44]I just put a Nav Unit from an H2 in my 2003 Tahoe. The whole install was very easy. It works fine, but I want to add a GMC cd changer so that I dont have to remove the nav disc. One question:

So you didn't have any problems installing tha nav radio from the factory 6-disc in dash rds radio?

I could be wrong, but doesn't a GM vehicle with the factory-installed OEM nav unit also have wheel sensors (or similar) which help aid vehicle navigation tracking when the nav unit isn't able to pick up a GPS signal while the vehicle is in motion? I mean, the nav won't be able to accurately display your vehicle location onscreen if your vehicle is inside say, a tunnel...not unless it's psychic.

Re: 2003 Yukon Denali Navigation Radio

the vehicle (all gm 2003 and up) have a VSS wire (vehicle speed sensor). This wire is connected to the HU harness when the NAV unit is installed. This is what tracks your position when the GPS signal is weak or unavailable (which is almost never). A version of this signal is also what controls your AVC (auto volume control). So when you go faster, your radio gets louder and when you slow down, it turns the volume back down.

Almost never? Ever driven through a dense forest of redwoods? Or in a long tunnel? Not trying to be argumentative, but there are places where the GPS antenna may not be able to pick up a strong enough signal...or any signal at all. Yeah, I know you said "almost"...

Gable-

I've got the appropriate Bose amp now and my console is pulled apart. What are the changes you made to the harness so that it would work? I'll be trying a few things but any help would be appreciated.
