2 things... 1. good deal? 2. mileage everyone?

Hey all,

Recently picked up a 91 civic hatch DX 4 speed for 1600. Bought it from the original owners with 185,000 on it. It is spotless and runs great. It appears that they really took good care of it.

Think this was a fair price?

I am a honda veteran 5 times over but my 1st civic. Anything I should look for maintinence wise that I may want to look at??(aside from timing belts of course) CV joints seem good.

Also, can you post some of your rides?? (pics would be great) but I really want to hear the high milage stories. 185 is alot so I almost bought the 90 I saw with 120,00 on it but I got a better feeling from the owners of the 91 despite the miles. My old accord had 247 when I sold it. Can I expect the same from the 91 hatch? Thanks!

One of my friends has a 91 CRX Si with 197,000 on it, he runs the piss out of it and it still runs VERY strong. I bought an 88 CRX HF one time that had 265,000, it was locked up but only becuase the woman who owned it had a broken radiator and never realized it and the engine overheated and locked up. Also, when going to the junkyard to find a gauge cluster, i found a wrecked 90 LX, the odometer said 353,000 and the car was wrecked, so my guess is it still ran..

my old 90 accord had 305,000 when i sold it. it looked and drove like it had 50,000. i still see the guy cruising it. it has to have at least 320,000 by now. only reason i sold it was due to it being an AT and it sucked in the winter. just went on a 3000mi road trip. took civic rush's MT accord. what a difference the tranny makes!

okay...my has run out

My original engine had 168k miles on it, and I ran the damn thing for 3months without coolant and a bad water pump, and it ran strong up 'till the day I pulled it out. Then I swapped in the b16, and it's been smooth sailing ever since.

My Civic's got 228,000; and damn, that thing still purrs....

Some of my high mileage stories:

Its been burning oil since about 150,000....it was level at about 1500 miles/quart for awhile but its dropped to about 750-1000 lately, and I can't find an oil leak anywhere.

Its on its third clutch, both of the last ones lasted 100,000; and its 5th timing belt

The back axle broke from "wear and tear"; as did the ignition switch.

The original radiator is giving me crap right now; I'll take a look at it next week.

Helluva car
