Hey everyone,
This problem has me preplexed ? Working on a friend of mines 84 Jetta GLI and it would not start. She suspected a dead battery and replaced it and hooked up the new battery. When she hooked up the new battery there is a humming sound coming from the fuel distributor area. Never come across this before. The syptoms before it would not start: Started to surge while driving it around town, it would when stopped at a stop light would rev between 1000 rpm then to 100 rpm. When she went out later in the day she tired to start the car and nothing would come on, not even the headlights. I have checked the fuses, grounds and they all appear to be tight and in solid shape. I have no idea what is happening here ? Any ideas or suggestions on how to trouble shoot this one ? Thanks in advance. Jon 80 Westfalia 88 VW fox

Have you checked the fuel pump relay? And the injector seals and the vacume lines?
