transmission

Hey guys here the deal, my car has a really hard time shifting into second gear. During the morning I have to warm up my car for 10 to 15 minutes. If I warm up the car for only 5 minutes it would take me a really long time for the car to jump into second gear. So the longer I warm up the car the shorter time it takes my car to jump into second. Sometime when there are cars behind me I have to at least move the car to 20mph and it hitting 4800 rpm. I know that is not good especially on first gear. I always maintence my car, recently changed my transmission fuild. This only happens from 1st to 2nd gear, everything else is fine once it gets pass second. I heard that BMW always has transmission problems, is it true? Please provide me with anything suggest or idea that i may try. Thanks.

Did you buy the car used? The previous driver was probably a bad shifter. The synchros are probably worn, It would be expensive to fix unless you can do it yourself, you just have to remove a 50 pound gearbox. Here is a trick, try not to shift so quickly and just ease it in to second try sustaining the revs to 2,000 rpm that should help synchronize the gears a little. You could probably nurse it for a while but in the end that gearbox will have to be opened

BMW always have transmission problems? Who told you that crock? the geek with the Camry from down the street? I know a guy that put 400,000 miles on his BMW's automatic transmission, without ever servicing it, a BMW gearbox lasts 30 years.
