Toyota Corolla WRC 2000 Monte-Carlo suggestions

Well I went to this local model shop which I never go to because it's out of the way to get some paints. In my journey I found this Toyota Corolla WRC 2000 Monte-Carlo Hasegawa kit. I know some of you rally guys have done them and know some of you have built a Hasegawa kit and haver even thought about picking one up.

I have never been sooo impressed before when opening a model kit.
Are all Hasegawa kits like this? This kit has photoetched parts!!!!!!
I was like whaaaa no way I know some of you guys knew that but hey I picked this up for $28 CDN which is like nothing in U.S. funds.

My question to you rally guys is where do I start for reference shots and if any of you guys/gals have built this kit before and some hints you can give me. I searched quite a bit of web sites to look for a pic of the model (box cover) and found it on one place.....maybe this model is rare because I havn't seen it on HLJ.com or www.1999.co.jp. or maybe it's me. Now I'll try to keep this thread open but I don't have a Dig camera so I can't give you guys/gals progress pics. I'll try to keep you peeps informed. Thanks

The only site I can think of with any photos of Corolla WRC photos is www.rallycars.com
I don't know of any photos of the car in that livery though, but it looks pretty cool.

Hasegawa kits are pretty nice, I only have one out of 3 WRC kits that has P/E parts in it, but the detail is very good.

I have two Hasegawa kits: one super-plain curbside, and one w/ full engine and p/e parts.

Is this your first WRC model Mr Mario? Nice livery on that 'rolla, should look great when built up.

Yeah the Hasegawa kits of a few years back came with a lot of nice extras, like the photoetch and mudflap material. Unfortunately they seem to have decided to sell the photoetch seperately for their last couple of new kits. Fine by me when those new kits are of cars like the Lancia 037 and Stratos!

Exactly what kind of reference pictures of the Corolla are you after? I should be able of drag up some general interior reference shots for you. But pictures of Thiry's Monte 2000 Corolla in particular will be difficult to find. The box photo is about as good as you're likely to find. So deciding if to fit stuff like the joystick gearchange or internal window will be a bit of a guess.

I haven't built a Hasegawa Corolla kit so can't comment on how it goes together.

I have found some external reference photos:

As for interior shots...I can probably dig some up, though Phil probably has more!

I have done two Hasegawa Corolla kits, both from gravel events. These came together very nicely, and I would expect this one to be the same. I haven't seen this livery here in Oz yet - nice, but I would like something away from white!

Most Hasegawa kits I have done (Corolla, Focus, Lancer, Impreza & Delta) have had full photo-etched parts & seatbelts. Phil is right however, some of the newer ones (037 & Stratos) have been sadly lacking.

Let me know if you still need/want interior shots.

Cheers.

BTW, I think this car may have competed in the Italian series - I believe it is a Grifone prepared car. There is a website with plenty of shots from the Italian championship. I can't remember the address, but I know it exists. Do a search, and good luck!

GREAT
Well building a WRC is my first but I do have the Tamiya Subaru Impreza WRC '98 Monte Carlo but it's that damn Mica Blue paint. The local hobby shops don't have it and they say it will be in soon arrrgg. Anyways thanks alot "potsie" for those pics and "RallyRaider" for your positve encouragement. Yeh I guess I can do a search but I know there's some WRC freaks on this board with info and you know what it seems wierd but I like to watch WRC on Speed Vision T.V. in Canada to collect info on some rally cars by taping it. IT rocks!!! aswell as Japan GT racing. But you guys prob watch it.

Anyways back to the thread yeh if potsie and or RallyRaider you have any interior ref pics would be great. Hopfully they can be as good as yours RallyRaider. I'll keep you guys posted.
Cheers

Mr Mario,

I know why you are so excited, it's a Belgian Corolla!

Some historical background on this car.
This car was prepared in 2000 by Griffone, specially for Bruno Thiry, to compete in the Monte Carlo rally that year. It was a one off in the world champioships that year for Bruno in the Corolla. After the Monte he drove the European Championship for Citroën in a Xsara Kit Car. So as you can see on the number plates, these pictures where taken during the Monte that year. So maybe it did compete in the Italian Championship, but certianly not with Bruno Thiry as a driver.

For the photo's I have to pass it to the others though.

cheers,

Guido

Yah I prob will put the light pod on. But the instructions do not mention anything about putting together the "light pod" or colour code of light pod. NO instructions on assembling it...it just says to omit construction soooo why put it in.
I guess I'll figure it out at the time of assembly.

Cheers

Who needs instructions? Thanks to potsie you have reference photos! Just paint the reflective bits and vertical supports silver, the rest semigloss black. Hard to tell from the photo but it may even be bare carbon fiber, so you could decal it! That should look excellent - I like carbon fibre decals, can you tell?

Here are some general detail shots - lots more CF!

Forgot your other question. Hasegawa often include lots of nice extras in their kits. It is because of all the different decal variants they tend to issue. Strange they would say leave the light pod off when it was obviously used on the event. Why didn't they list it as optional or something. Similar things in the 83 Monte 037 kit - it has the light pod, I've seen pictures of the real car using the light pod. But Hasegawa say don't use it. Crazy.
