a subsonic filter will cut the low bass even more ....... but a ported (or bandpass) box will be much louder in area just above the cut-off. It's the same old problem, there is NO free lunch.

Easy fix for that problem. Port the box to 20 hz. Since there is very little music that plays below that freq then you would be fine. Just make sure that your woofers fs is that low or lower or else you risk damaging the woofer.

And put it in a large box. It helps smooth out the hump (which is true for any box type)

easy if you are willing to use pretty much your whole trunk for a sub box .... most people don't want to do that

well, you do get a fair amount of cabin gain in a small car - about the only free lunch you will ever get in the world of physics.
