2013 Chevy Equinox Shows Dashes For Mileage

Bought a 2013 Chevy Equinox.
The instrument cluster only shows dashes where
the miles should display. Just replaced the instrument
cluster and have the same problem.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 2013 Chevy Equinox Shows Dashes For Mileage

It is likely that the Body Control Module (BCM) has lost communication with the Instrument Panel (IP) and/or has lost its memory. This can occur due to an electrical fault or surge, as an improperly jump-started battery connection, failing alternator, or incorrectly connected or battery charger applying AC to the system. It could also be a failed BCM. If the rest of the IP functions normally, such as the spedometer and gauges indicating properly, thre is likely nothing wring with the panel itself, and possibly was nothing wring with the original panel.

A fully equipped shop can scan the Conroller Area Network (CAN) on the vehicle to communicate with each module, including the IP and BCM, and determine if a mileage number is stored. If that data is missing or corrupted, the module(s) in question can be re-flashed with factory code and vehicle data. That scan will also establish whether all the modules are communicating, perhaps identifying another potential problem.

It MAY be possible to force the CAN into communicating all cell data between modules by completely dumping vehicle power. This is done by disconnecting the battery cables, isolating them from the battery, connecting the cables together, and switching on the ignition and accessories such as the radio, heat/AC, headlamps, etc. Following a dwell time of several minutes, all stored energy in modules could be dissipated. At that time the ignition is turned off and the battery can be reconnected normally. After reconnection, turn on the ignition switch without starting the engine and monitor the IP and vehicle systems through the radio display. All presets should be lost, including driver positioning, oil minder, lamp delays, radio stations, etc. This can potentially clear corrupted data and force the BCM to retrieve some root data from the PCM, including historical mileage.

I have the exact same issue after changing battery on 2013 Equinox. Have you figured it out yet?

Yes. Very easy. Had to reprogram the cluster.
