!!! PROBLEM SOLVED !!! Here is what I changed from the procedure described above:
  1. I used the DLC 2 connector which is located near the break paddle. (It is NOT behind the coin box which is only true for later (1994?) models.) Yesterday, when I wrote my frustrated email above, I had been using DLC 1 which is under the hood.
  2. I used a jumper cable from the minus pole of the battery to make the ground contact with the Tc and AB terminals of the DLC 2 connector. (Previously I had grounded the cables to the top of the engine block at a location which I had cleared with a file.) The jumper cable and the DLC2 was actually quite convenient as I could sit in the driver seat and directly observe the airbag light.
"Unfortunately" I do not know which of the 2 modifications did the trick since the airbag / SRS light cleared with the first trial! As other people have commented, I did not stick to the 1sec intervals specified by Toyota but did the Tc-AB-Tc-AB-TC sequence fairly quickly. (Now that I think about it: perhaps I just got incredible lucky by using the correct timing intervals. I doubt it somewhat though, because I had tried it dozens of times the day before to no avail.)

Cheers, Christof

Re: Airbag Light Reset Procedure?

Hey there, I've got a 92 Camry and I recently got a mechanical inspection to register it in a new province. One of the things they failed me on was the fact that my airbag light would not come on at all (when the keys are first in the ignition and all utility lights comes on, it does not.)

does anybody have an idea of what is the issue here? would a an airbag light reset procedure cure this issue?

Re: Airbag Light Reset Procedure?

No, there is a problem with the circuit.
Check the SRS Fuse (ECU-B fuse, Junction Box No. 2 - Next to the battery)
Check the SRS warning light circuit
Check terminal LA of the center airbag sensor assembly and the electrical connection check mechanism. If normal, replace the center airbag sensor assembly.
May be the bulb, but it may be difficult to get to.

Re: Airbag Light Reset Procedure?

So I've checked the ECU-B fuse - and it seems fine. Even replaced it just in case I couldn't visually locate the problem, and there is still no difference.

I've just downloaded a circuit diagram for my vehicle, and may try to check out the whole SRS system, but it seems very complicated to check every connection point. Going to attempt today to remove the centre console and visually inspect the center airbag sensor assembly like you suggested and check the LA terminal.

However in the mean time here is something to chew on - I tried to jump the TC & E1 terminals in my diagnostic plug under the steering column to get a diagnostic code. The airbag sensor light still did not light up to give a diagnostic code, but the "cruise" light began a continuous regular blink. This continuous blink (if it was the airbag light) would mean there is a voltage drop, which would either mean there is a problem with the battery or the center airbag sensor assembly.

Related to this voltage drop I read that the voltage between the terminals E1 & TC should be equal to the voltage between the two battery terminals. When the the key position is turned to "on" the battery voltage is 8.6 (i've drained it quite a bit in the past 2 days) and the voltage between E1 & Tc is only 5.9 5.7 or so there is definitely a voltage drop going on.. possibly another indicator there is a problem with the center airbag sensor assembly?

Re: Airbag Light Reset Procedure?

Before you try and diagnose anything further, get the battery voltage up where it should be.

Re: Airbag Light Reset Procedure?

So I opened up the center console to take a look at the sensor and found it had been completely disconnected. I reconnected it and now the light is always illuminated - whoever owned it before me disconnected it so the light would go off. Time to re-read the above procedures and hopefully get that light off.

Re: Airbag Light Reset Procedure?

Hi everyone,

I have the 1992 Toyota Camry V6 LE model. I have the same issue regarding to the AIRBAG light in my dashboard ever since I changed the D transmission light bulb couple of days ago in my dashboard since it was burned out. Once I was finished my AIRBAG warning light turned on. I did a diagnostic flashing a 41 code. I read here to clear that code I need to go to the DLC 1 or DLC 2 putting two separate grounding wires in TC and AB then alternate back and forth grounding TC for ten seconds so my warning light could flash constantly, resulting the error code to be deleted. However, I am not sure which is a good source of grounding wire because I used two paperclips and small alligator clips that are negative and positive but it did not work. Can you guys provide me links for a good grounding wire or tell me a different way I can do this that is more simple way to clear this error code in step by step?

By the way here is what I used in the picture to troubleshoot the error code.

Thank you so much.
