Re: WIP; signal auto R34 GT-R
heres a few little things i discovered for myself that i thought would be good to share on here for others.
firstly, the gear shifter was totally different to the std one so i scratch built it. very simple really but i scratched my head for a while after realizing how to do it. the base and stick are simply styrene sheet and rod, but the perfectly round knob i made by using 5 minute epoxy on the end of the styrene rod and rotating it making sure it stayed a round drop until it dried, worked amazingly well...... ![]() next was the aluminum foot plate with holes drilled in it on passenger side foot well. this is obviously just thin styrene sheet but theres a trick to getting the holes nice and evenly spaced out and in line with each other. i worked out if i put small cuts with a scalpel, going both up and down, side to side, evenly measured out and using a straight edge, the drill bits then centered themselves quite well at the meeting points of these marks so it basically made easy work of marking where to drill the holes obvoisly do this on the back where it cannot be seen.

Re: WIP; signal auto R34 GT-R
Well I cant believe this one had been sitting on the shelf unfinished for so long, even though there was not all that much to be done to complete it!
I had a day to myself so I got stuck back in. heres the exhaust i modified, using the muffler that came with the top secret kit. it still need paint the main thing i had to do was the harness, I remember it hadn't been done as I couldn't find any info on what the car really used, I have a feeling it was willans but with no hard evidence I just ran with a takata just cos green belts look so good for some weird reason! I was happy with the hobby design resin harness buckle, I highly recommend them to anyone as I have always found the multi layer buckle a pain in the pe sets. apart from that and just putting the interior together it was pretty much a matter of doing the decals. Interior details; Dash and door pannels painted in my own grey mix of tamiya acrylics, then tamiya flat red for the wheel and door trim inserts. wheel came from my stash, no idea where it came from... scratch built centre guage and switch pannel, using hobby design toggle switches and decal guage faces. matching the ones on the real car. scratch built gear stick, roll cage, rear section of floor pan, passenger alloy foot well. PE harness with resin buckle.

Re: WIP; signal auto R34 GT-R
I then got stuck into the decals....
Really happy with how they went, very good quality decals, probably the best ive ever used! I had no problems at all. Here is the result ![]() ![]() ![]() I cant stop taking photos, this paint just looks so good no matter the light, flash or no flash, it just changes so dramatically with every curve and different light.... ![]() here is the finished rear wing. I tried painting with a mix of tamiya semi gloss black with a small amount of silver mixed in to give the illusion of carbon. it worked ok, but in pictures it doesn't look good, so i didn't bother trying to put a picture up. but i am happy with the PE parts! So its a hobby design wing with scratch built end plates. the top secret one would have been ok, but this one looks better because of the PE parts.

Re: WIP; signal auto R34 GT-R
thanks for the comments!
CircuitR its autoair (waterbased) teal/purple in their colour shift range. ive had some good and bad experiences with these paints, but when done properly they are good and very cost effective. if you look back in my posts the s13 sileighty also used autoair paints. |
