WIP; signal auto R34 GT-R

yes another R34!
this one is the awesome signal auto R34, which has been used as a demo car for drag, drift, and for to my liking, time attack (track)
this one requires a little scratch building as there is no model out there with the right body kit. it will be required on front bar and a whole remake of the side skirts.
it will also be painted in maziora color shift paint

i have started with the aoshima top secret kit, as the front bar and vented bonnet/hood was the closest in model kit production.
i will also use the gt style rear wing from this kit.

this has been one source of pics for me, and you guys can see what i mean about the side skirts here. (-note it has a different sticker kit and wheels in this state of tune than mine will)
http://www.superstreetonline.com/fea...ks_trb02_evo8/

now all ive done now has been scratch building side skirts, heres the process i went through.
1; cut out rear corner and add top part of new skirt

2; add new rear section and large flat bottom section to create new lower and flatter underside

3;
add a small section joining the top and bottom sections at rear, also creating the duct

a bit of putty and sanding to do....

Re: WIP; signal auto R34 GT-R

although no more pictures to show im pretty happy with the end result of the side skirts.

heres what ive done with the front bar, it started life with no vent, i cut a vent, added the small lip to front and top sides of the vent, and also created the triangular shape at the bottom of the spoiler. as per signal auto demo car.

oh i also filled in the small air intake in the bar too.

Re: WIP; signal auto R34 GT-R

thanks mate, im happy with it all now, its all primed ready to go.
the bonnent is slightly different to the actual car but largly the same so it wll stay as is. there has been so many developments with this car that im not worried to get it exact. every photo i see has different parts on the car anyway....after all it is a jap demo car.

next step is to get the chassis all done then ill get to the paint.

Re: WIP; signal auto R34 GT-R

work has got in the way of this project but i did manage to get the paint done.
the signature feature of this car is the paint.
the real signal car has 'mazora' purple/teal paint so i matched the best i could with a readily available airbrush paint without paying $1000/litre for the real stuff!!

to get this effect i used a black base then painted over with the teal/purple flip paint.
its very hard to get the paint to look right in the photo, especially without a clear coat yet.
its not exactly like the real thing but its as good as i expected. good enough for me.

Re: WIP; signal auto R34 GT-R

recent progress....

the brakes that come with this kit are average. they are std gtr brakes.
so i bought a tamiya z-tune detail kit and modified them to fit the aoshima kit, heres how i did it...these are the front ones to use as example.
std brakes;

cut off disks to leave hub only

get tamiya z tune brakes;

drill out centre to suit diameter of aoshima hub

glue on

test fit in aftermarket aoshima 19" Advan RGIII wheels

finished product after fitting PE parts.....still need to finish painting detail a bit but im happy with the result!

Re: WIP; signal auto R34 GT-R

quick update;

scratch built styrene cage done, as is the scratch built rear section of the floor pan to get the rear seat out. -to be painted

i actually decided not to use the rear wing that came in the top secret kit as i found these cool PE ones from hobby design.
i did make the end plates though....

wheels painted and fitted with semi slick tyres

body cleared, its so hard to get a good shot of the colour in doors, i will take another in natural light soon....

Re: WIP; signal auto R34 GT-R

thanks everyone whos following this one, its been slow progress with no spare time but its going ok now

heres my latest update,
did all the interior detail.

used the tamiya z tune kit again for the white guage dash, also fitted a panel with 4 gauges in place of head unit and vents, also fitted 3 tiny metal switches for the first time, they look good but its hard to see in the photos.
the seat came in the kit, but ive put Kevlar decal and BRIDE decal on it.

also painted door trims and rear panels that are painted the body colour.
just need to clear them and ill fit it all together ....finally!

sorry for the poor quality pics, but you get the idea.....ill take some better ones when its complete. this is just a mock up before final detailing. still got PE harness to do as well.
