While this wouldn't stop you having to alter the exhaust pipes (though it would only require you to alter the primary, not the headers), you could cut the engine from the bellhousing, put it in the correct position, and then extend the bellhousing forward. Though it's as though Revell got the engine length significantly wrong. The forward leg of the rear suspension mounts to the bellhousing about as far forward on the bellhousing as it can, therefore just behind the engine. If you move the engine forward and extend the bellhousing to fill the difference you'll end up with a large unrealistic space between the engine and the rear end. So maybe that isn't a good idea....

If were going for unrealistic, then in the empty space, Ill make a compartment and put a Playstation in it. When questioned, Dave Maraj will say "we found a new high tech way of testing."

Re: WIP: Revell Audi R10

Okay, a little update. Ive been trying to get my C6R off my table, so ive finally sprayed that. Its a nice good yellow surprisenly. Needs 1 more coat. I ended up finding a problem with the chassis, taking it apart because of space that was between, fixed it, put it back together and found that the axle could no longer go through! After some drilling I fixed it....

As for the R10, I ended up having a problem with one of the resin parts, the radiator tubes I think. They were so big that you couldnt fit the engine cover over, even with the cover sanded down so thin that you can easily snap it in half! A head on shot showed it sticking out, so I had to take a knife and cut in the shape. The picture should show it. Also, put together part of the brakes from the KA set, theyre really nice! Also the wing supports came in 3 peices apeice, very nice! I also have the wheels white, looks really nice on the rubber! Im still sanding down some areas, some painting, but waiting for my primer and pure white spray to arrive. Thinking of buying the SMS CF, but dont know which type to get...any ideas?

Re: WIP: Revell Audi R10

very clean and very good so far, I'm definitely going with KA's version of the wing support, and that would look great in CF

I'd go with this weave (I've seen alot of references photos and this is generally on the R10's interior and engine area

and maybe if you feeling up to it,

use the Hi-def decals for the suspension (thats what I'm going to be doing)

Re: WIP: Revell Audi R10

Spike,

When I furst started with the side louvers, I used the frame to size the cutting into the mold, so the frame fits. Its the individual louvers that are placed into the frame that are giving me hell. The very first one is the smallest fit, and it wont stay in when fitted (at least not at the correct angle).

The suspension on the R10 is steel, not carbon. Would be a mistake to clad them in CF decal.

Re: WIP: Revell Audi R10

A small update for now. My 2 cans of Tamiya Pure White arrived, along with the white primer. Ive dug around online to find the directions, and doing so I found the the decal placement sheet. I fixed, whited it completely out, printed, colored the decals on, and scanned it. Also, have gotten in 4 louvers! ya! Working with the wing, from the KA kit, its tricky having to bend it correctly, you bend at the wrong part and its hard to bend back to try again. Still sanding down the engine cover, trying to fit it over the bay. I sanded down the bottom of the car, taking of the dive plans. The wheels are as crazy as someone elses, but they're white!!! they get props just for that . Waiting for my 2 sheets of CF to arrive and then things will get real crazy real fast!

Re: WIP: Revell Audi R10

I hope so too, Dave needs to bring back the colors! Ive been a huge Champion Racing fan for a long time, I have part of the side pod from the '05 R8 at Mid-Ohio.

If by chance they still run in silver at Sebring, I will make sure to bring my project to Long Beach and show the team what their car shoudl look like

Re: WIP: Revell Audi R10

So as far as updates go, this one was a long time coming, right?

So, 7 have passed since I began this project. So much has happened, and despite setbacks, I felt this was something I wanted to complete. Sometime after this last post, I ran into some photoetch difficulties. The car was a mess, and the project had been shelved in favor of other cars (ex, like my GT2 Ferrari). I started working on planes and ships instead of cars, developing my skills. Eventually around 2011, Dexter finally came out with their ALMS resin pieces, I got a copy. This renewed my interest in this build, but feeling that I had already damaged the model too much, I found a 2nd kit and started building that one. I used a different photoetch setup which was much more simple, and worked on that.

Then I founded out my family was moving. All model making was soon stopped, and packaged. I had a lot of models that were in various stages of completion, though none actually finished. So I had 30+ kits stuffed into several boxes that the moving company loaded onto the truck. 2 months later when we finally moved and got through all the boxes, I found that one of boxes was missing. I this box I not only had both Audi R10s, but their custom decals, the Ferrari, a good 8+ custom/rare decals, all my photoetch and aftermarket parts. I was crushed. The moving company searched for the missing box, but never found it. I was compensated, but it felt like all the time and planning had been wasted.

Then in April of 2014, while I was participating in my local IPMS annual show with a finished Corvette C5R (my first finished car model), I saw a Revell Audi R10 kit for sale in the swap meet area. I figured why not, I'll give it another go. Bought it for $15, and slowly started working on it. Considering the amount of time and effort spent on the previous kits, I decided to go easy and just attempt to finish this one, out of the box. Contacted the previous decal maker, who once again helped me out. And while Ive had many issues with this damn kit, I was determined to see it through. All she needs now are her antennas and a clear coat. Should be finished by next month.

In the end, there are terrible gaps, scuffed decals, and too much dirt/hairs stuck on the car. However, despite finishing this 7 years later than planned, its kinda seemed like a great redemption. And at some point I'll be doing it again, as I purchased the Scale Motorsports kit and an additional Revell kit. I'll do twin Champion Racing Audi's, only the colors will be slightly different, based off of an older scheme. Until then, Im finishing my Fujimi Porsche (in Champion colors of course, as seen slightly in the background). I look forward to doing more Champion Racing cars.

Re: WIP: Revell Audi R10

I read your latest update and I really feel for you JTninja.
Good job on finishing the build.
Looking forward to seeing the images after the clear coat has been added.

I think most of us here has had (or are going through it now) such a project where everything is stacking up against us.
Many just give up, or feel like giving up. You pulled through :-)
