Re: 2001 Kia Sportage Vibration

is this a 2WD or a 4WD ?
..ANy vibration in the drive shaft system make one think of a failed universal joint in the first place... in the absence of other info.
What was the reason for replacing the "center drive shaft support bearing".....which I'm not sure to identify positively....

This is a 2 wheel drive. The center bearing was replaced because it was making a grinding noise. The u joints move freely and dont seem to be binding but I guess they could still be bad

Not familiar with the 2WD. ....is the longer driving shaft split in two requiring that center support bearing?....which I'm borne to understand...if that is the case, are the 2 sections built with a collapsible section..

Re: 2001 Kia Sportage Vibration

OK...that is like the 4wd....with a telescopic section..this is where you replaced a sleeve bearing...so...if you lift and rotate a rear wheel can you see any wobble of the driving shaft...? Was there a vibration already before you changed the sleeve ? any possibility the driving shaft had contacted something in off road driving ?

Re: 2001 Kia Sportage Vibration

I was just out in the garage looking at my new one. I notice that in the housing there is an inner portion that in slightly smaller. I was wondering if you pressed the bearing into this section before you slide the assembly onto the shaft. I imagine if you place the bearing in the outer loose portion of the housing it would develop a wobble. I won't be completely sure though until I take my old one off and inspect it. I'm going to see where the seals fit in the housing first also.
