Re: 2006 Ford taurus wont start
Welcome to the forum!
So when you say it makes a rapid clicking noise I assume you're referring to when you try to start the engine. That is indicative of a low voltage/current condition to the starter. The rapid clicking is because the starter relay energizes the starter solenoid, the starter attempts to engine, the system voltage drops low, the solenoid drops out due to the low voltage, a surface charge builds on the system, the solenoid attempts to engage the starter motor again, and the cycle repeats.
I'd start by making sure your battery cables are clean and tight both at the battery and at the starter/chassis. Don't just peek at them at the battery end, physically remove them from the battery posts and inspect them for signs of corrosion. Also, if the cable terminals are not the original molded style and have been replaced with the temporary type that clamp on to the cable after the insulation is stripped, plan to replace the cables with molded cables for your application.
With the age of your car, if you have not yet replaced the original battery you've received good service from the battery and it is likely the issue. But a weak battery would not as understandably explain the intermittency that you are experiencing.
Good luck, and please post back with what you find.
