Re: Ferrari 458 - Good vs Evil - dada man and andybmw7272

Alright, now that Raees is in good shape with his kit we are officially off!

The roof is attached here and looking nice and aggressive. I have added a body kit with styrene for the mean look. The front grill has been filled with styrene as well. While I initially did not want a spoiler, this is starting to need one to balance the modifications to the body.

I have filled the holes for the mirrors and will use some piano wire to the get the mirrors on. When I did the california, the mirrors ended up being really sloppy looking because the hole in the body was way too big and it did not look natural.

Also, all panel lines have been scribed really deep and thin with a #11 exacto. This will not make a huge impact on a black car, but on a car with color it would really help achieve a natural look.

Next up is to hit this thing with some primer!

Thank you again!
Andy

Re: Ferrari 458 - Good vs Evil - dada man and andybmw7272

Finally some updates, Andy. Been following your thread when I was working on my 16M..
Personally I love the idea of front spoilers, giving it a more aggressive look. Nice choice of the wheels too! Are they from tamiya enzo?

As for the side mirrors, I have an idea for you. I did my Italia side mirrors by inserting metal rods into the side mirror and insert it to the body. But I did not glue the mirrors and body together. I used 'blue tag' from stationary shop to stick behind the body and hold them together. The result is foldable side mirrors..

Thanks for the words and thoughts. Those wheels are temporary. I have some 22" font 23" rear on the way from shapeways. See the design within this post with the blue background.

Keep up your great work on the builds over there on your side too!
Awesome work,
Andy

Re: Ferrari 458 - Good vs Evil - dada man and andybmw7272

Im loving that Body kit Andy

Ok so here we go. heres a few updates.

got the front grille done

The body will be very simple and clean so I decided to add some details to the interior as its very bland. I used pics from the web and a build from here as a referance to do the door panels.
stock vs modified

And the tub being detailed

Re: Ferrari 458 - Good vs Evil - dada man and andybmw7272

Excellent work on those doors Raees! How was Fujimi trying to pass those off as doors? Way to make it look TONS better.

I got things smoothed out a bit with some primer and filler.

The back end has been opened up for some PE grills.

The backs of the door handles have been opened up to get a more realistic result. The black paint will hide this. I did it on the Cali too, but you could not see it.

It is all starting to take a little bit of shape.

Thank you all!
Andy

wow thats insane Andy!! loving it.

the doors are very bad. im not going too hectic on them, just a bit extra to make it look nicer.

Heres two small updates. got the grille done.

rear bumper is cur for the p.e mesh but some dont quite fit perfectly so im fixing that.

Other things ive done so far, painted the chassis and window parts. More pics tomorrow.

Re: Ferrari 458 - Good vs Evil - dada man and andybmw7272

Looking good Raees!!!

Thank you Tom!

Here is the body with another coat of primer, sanded again, and then with a third coat of primer.

I am trying to make all panel lines as thin and as deep as possible. Where this wont quite have the impact on a black car as say a red car, it is good practice should I want to build another 458 one day!

There are still some touch ups with the roof that need to be done, but color is on the way shortly.

Thank you again!
Andy

Re: Ferrari 458 - Good vs Evil - dada man and andybmw7272

I got some color on this sucker. There are 3-4 coats of wetsanded black lacquer on here. All were sprayed very thin, I dont think there was really ever a 'wet coat' as I was just applying color, not paint.

Too much paint and too thick ruins/covers all the details in the body.
You can see the body panel lines are pretty much uncorrupted by the paint, not filled in, not pooling at the edges, nice and smooth, straight, flat.

I also hit it with some Studio 27 carbon fiber. I love that stuff!!!

Thank you again guys!
I am going to be getting the interior done while Raees catches up from his delay.
