I normally pour my moulds into a Lego brick squares, but then take them out when the silicone has set. I've found that holding the moulds together using elastic bands distorts the mould shape, even when there's loads of silicone around the castings. Will definitely try this box idea! 10/10

I just forget one thing to tell you.
The frame is simply screwed together.So i easily remove every part
when its necessary.

nice solution on keeping the mold's shape intact during casting. now i can switch from using lego frames...cleaning resin off lego pieces is quite the hassle, especially since i use them for other purposes (like drying stand).

More work done!

I made a mold for the wheel nuts


and one for the steering wheel



Than all of my silicon was empty,until today the second delivery arrived..



So i began to make the big mold and i thought i´m gone have some silicon left over.



But that was false.The silicon was used with every little amount.



The rest on the top must be filled with fast resin.
Puh,that was close.

Yes,its done!



Looks like Hulk´s new toy!



Before i started with this project,i got a bit nervous about using silicon for the first time.
But the result is good.
I will say thanks to www.trollfactory.de for the very good silicon.Its very easy to work with!



Every little fence is formed very well.Even the panel lines and the small air intakes are there.
Thats fine!



I screwed the frame to the mold again and it fits.
Next step will be the wax pattern.I will re pave the mold with 1mm and 2mm wax.At the end i will be an wall thickness of min 4mm.Some parts maybe a bit thicker?

I'm loving all this resin-work - it must be very satisfying for you to see the fine detailing coming out so well; those rims are great! I haven't tried moulding like this myself...yet...maybe on a future project, perhaps?

I'm envious of the one-piece bodyshell, too - you know that it will all fit together, whereas I'm constantly trimming and making adjustments to the 935. I look forward to seeing how things develop from here.

I can see where you are going with those wax sheets...LOL!

Never seen this done before, but looks like a very good idea. Do you have to heat the sheets to get them to sit in the mould, or can you push them into position cold?

Another great idea I'm going to have to try!

Hello,
some small progress on the wax sheets.



I used at first the 1mm sheet and put it with a hairdryer in shape.Its easy to use.



Second step was the 2mm wax sheet.You can put it down with your fingers and use the heat from the hair dryer.
The small gaps can be filled with plastilin after every sheet is in place.
Now i have too take a break,because my wife is using her hair dryer. :oops: :oops:

Finaly it´s done so far.



Right now i got at least 3mm wax.But i´m not shure if this is enough?
I think i will spend 2 layers of 0,5mm wax more.With 4mm it´s saver to make the mold.
What are you thinking?

Hi Christian,

That looks like a great way to get the inner mould! I would have thought 3mm would be OK to make a strong resin casting, but then 4mm thick would reduce any bubble problems.

Out of interest can you not blend the edges of the was sheets with a something like a heated palette knife?
