Gear selector in park and dash shows reverse

Looking into an LHS issue. When the gear selector is in park (can lift the trim and see the tab click into place), the dash shows reverse. Comes and goes, yet when it comes, the car won't start in P or N. The last time it happened, put the car in N, then slid it about a quarter-way to R, and it would start (after that, P worked again, so something shifted?).

So it sounds to be the trans gear position sensor, yet can't find any notes on Google or here, about how to adjust it. Something in the gear shift mechanism? Or something on top of the trans (thinking that more likely). Was hoping to find a quick-list of how to adjust it, yet just can't seem to find it.
