Re: Ford Focus engine swap
I have a DOHC Zetec Ford Focus 2002 engine, I can sell, but I really want to put it in my car. My engine is blown, and the kids picked up the zetec at the wreckers, but it's in great shape and they cleaned it.
Can I ask a mechanic to put this engine in my 2000 ford focus sedan? Will it fit? THANKS |

Re: Ford Focus engine swap
Hey, I have a 2003 spi with a thrown rod, and would like to swap it for the zetec, but I've heard that along with replacing the ecu, I would also have to so the fuel system because they're incompatible. Is this true, and does anyone have any suggestions?

I no longer have the zetec, but I have an engine stand (H-shaped) you can have for $40 Sue 416-265-2959

If you're interested in an SPI to Zetec engine swap you'll need quite a bit of info. You'll need to change the computer, and passenger side engine wiring harness all the way back to the fuel pump. You'll also want the key from the car that the computer came from if you don't want to spend $50 re flashing the computer.
Also you'll need to know what year the replacement engine / harness came from because the harness plugs will fit from year to year but the wiring is different so you could lose some accessories or gain a fire. I would recommend you go to the Focus Fanatics forum to get more detailed info. They have a couple of threads there where this conversion was performed with quite a few details included, parts lists and photos etc. There is a guy in Wisconsin who I think is the guru on this conversion. He and his crew can do one in a day or so but they've done dozens and they know what NOT to do. The business name is Speedway motors. I had a local mechanic who was familiar with Focuses do a conversion for me. I ended up with a couple of fires in the passenger compartment so I have a replacement car now. Good Luck |
