wheel balancing weights....... options?

I had my truck to the dealer for the 5th time the other day for the persistant shake in the steering wheel and after talking to the service manager and one of the tech guys it was agreed to rebalance the tires for the third time.Well come to find out the shake was caused by out of balance tires but before everyone says "well yeah " come to find out the stick on weights they had been using weren't staying on.The tech told me that after balancing the tires he was putting them back on when a weight fell off one of the rims and after attempting to clean the rims he could not get them to stay on or would not gaurentee that they would stay on.So now I have the old fashion tap on weights and I'm not happy about it.Yeah the shake is gone but now I have corroding of the rims to look foreward to,so what I'd like to know is what other options do I have for tire balancing?I hate the idea of those tap on weights plus they look like hell.

Not that it matters as balancing is universal but the truck is an 08 crew cab with stock 18" aluminum wheels.

rim weights do not stay on alloy rims. been there so many times.

stick on weights are the best bet. if done right. apparently, they are either using some sort of cheapo weights, or rim inside is simply oily, and weights don't stick. which can be fixed, of course, by de-greasing the area and warming up glue on weights.

to make it bulletproof, I tell them to secure weights in place with aluminum sticky tape, like one they use for heat ducts. ever since I was shown this, I never had a single weight lost. They do know about this, but you need to push them in that direction.

why did you go to the dealership ? they screwed these up 2x now you go back for more pain !

GO TO A TIRE SHOP. THE WHEELS MUST BE WIPED WITH PAINT THINNER THEN THE WEIGHTS ARE APPLIED.

My wieghts have been on the tires I have now for 6 years, and no fall offs. ya your gonna F up those wheels fast. aluminum and steel means it will be trash in no time.

I kept going back because I was told repeatedly they could fix the problem plus it wasn't costing me anything other than fuel to get there.Now that I know it was a balancing issue all along I no doubt will take it to a tire shop and have the stick on weights put on.
I bought the truck from this particular dealer because I've had great luck in the past with them and any warranty work or service done there has been done promptly and efficiently.But I will say this,this latest round of foolishness is not doing much to hold them in my best graces.

It is surprising to me that they can't even put on correctly stick on weights. if the wheels were corroded then these will not work , with the wheels good with a solid smooth surface it does take quite a bit of effort to remove them.

the hammer on weights for me on the steel rims always fell off. also on alloy wheels the hammer on weghts used are cheap crap. they are supposed to be coated with an epoxy to eliminate the corrosion with the metal to different metal contact. stick on no conductive contact.

be carefull when removing the hammer on's to prevent marking up the rim.
