Wheel Balancing

Hi All,

I've been trying to get the wheels of my 93 TBird balanced without success. I've taken the car to four different shops and I just found out that the machines they use for balancing reach up to 60mph. Here's the problem, when I reach 75 and above the steering shakes which leads me to think that the wheels need balancing. I'm the original owner and the car has never been in an accident. All help in trying to fix this problem is greatly appreciated.

This is a mystery to me to. I have a 95 v8 bird, and after 75mph my steering wheel shakes-it goes from left to right, it is manageble but sometimes annoying.

I'm the second owner, about 6 months ago a lady went past a red, and hit my drivers side front wheel area-everything was fixed, tie rods, shock, control arm, exterior etc. When i got it balanced and aligned at that bodyshop-i told them of the problem. They didn't have a clue.

Before and after the accident, this shaking is still the same, no worse after the collision. I can take my hands off the wheel at 100mph, and the car is straight as can be, it just has some steering wheel wobble..

I'm stumped.

Will a new suspension / front end fix this? What would a good system be and where could I order it from?

Yes, the problem developed after about 3 years of owing the car. I now has over 125,000 miles. I had a lot of work done to the front end. The only thing that has not been changed are the springs. At this time I'm willing to change the whole thing again. It gets really annoying in particular since I drive 50 miles to work on the expressway.

I honestly don't know. I would say ask a specialist in this area-suspension, steering etc.

BTW, ask this in the forum Engineering and Technical in the Cars in General forum. Lot's of pros there.

Do you think it could be possible you have a bad tire or one just slightly out of shape.

make sure you keep them tires in shape. Take it from thunderbird muscle. you have to pump dem uuuuuuppp... lol. im sorry im just kidding. I was just entertaining myself.

Another small thought is possibly slight bent rims.... if they are aluminum its doesnt take much to get them off centered. Just a thought

Try this.
The front hubs have one yellow painted stud, be sure to align the valve stem as close to that yellow painted stud. That is only on the front.
Also hand torque the lug nuts to 95 ft. lbs.

it could be a wheel bearing. a simple way to test is to grab each wheel at the top and try to move it in and out, it should not move at all. if it moves the bearing is bad
