18 volts on 84 pickup
Hello, got an 84 2wd xc with a 22R-EC that is putting out around 18 volts at idle. Have replaced the alternator, (and I did have them run the new one up on the test stand first), tried about three different voltage regulators and have removed and cleaned / replaced all of the ground straps from the battery and engine. All the wiring from the alternator has chased out with a continuity tester, wondering where to go from here. Next step will be to open up the factory wire loom and inspect for hidden damage; as far as I can tell it has been unmolested. Any help would be appreciated as this is the last issue keeping it off the road. I have searched extensively on here and other sites for an answer.

Re: 18 volts on 84 pickup
Are you going by the dash gauge, or an actual voltmeter?
The dash gauges aren't very accurate. The one on my 84 says 18V also, but it's actually less.

Re: 18 volts on 84 pickup
What fourwd1 said. Check the voltage output of the alternator to chassis ground with a good voltmeter.
