Major Decision - Fix Tranny or Get rid of Car

I have a 2001 Rodeo V6 3.2L with 123K that needs a new transmission. I had a auto shop replace filter and oil in the transmission a month ago and now the tranny is shot. They said the oil was black. I was quoted $2187 for a salvaged one and $3900 for a remanufactured one.
I need to know if these number are outrageous. Now the major dilemma, fix the tranny or get rid of the car. Either than the tranny, Rodeo has no issues.

Those seem like fair prices.

I think it comes down to the funds you have and do you really need an SUV? if not, this might be the logical time to look for something that gets better MPG.

If you truely need an SUV then it would be better to fix yours and probably enjoy it for another 5yrs.
