Re: Most Stolen Cars

We don't have to kill it, I want to know how the list has changed in the last 8 years?

Are Honda's and Toyota's still top of the list?

Here in NZ, the most stolen car is the Nissan Elgrand, a luxury JDM people mover.

Re: Most Stolen Cars

Well I did check this out to see what the new list is (and to have it spoon-fed to my lazy azz) so I checked it out. Seems the 2011 list isnt yet posted but 2010 is around. Mixed results depending where you look but I found:

(from National Insurance Crime Bureau for 2010)
1. 1994 Honda Accord
2. 1995 Honda Civic
3. 1991 Toyota Camry
4. 1999 Chevrolet Silverado
5. 1997 Ford F150 Series/Pickup
6. 2004 Dodge Ram
7. 2000 Dodge Caravan
8. 1994 Acura Integra
9. 2002 Ford Explorer
10. 1999 Ford Taurus

Sadly (and expectedly) Hondas still reign supreme in the world of stolen autos in the U.S.

The 94 Accord has been atop this list since 2008 so apparently if I still had mine (RIP) then it would have been taken from me long ago

Wow, I guess the Accord really is a good car.

Interesting that they are all much older cars.
I wonder if the modern theft protection systems are working?

Since most cars are stolen for the parts market I'd have to come to the opposite conclusion and say that the Accord must break down a lot and really suck and the reason they are all much older cars is that newer cars are under warranty and mechanics don't need to go to the black market for parts at a reasonable price.

No, not joking. Are you saying there's a market for stolen Accords kept whole? That rich people in foreign countries actually commission thefts just so that they can have an Accord? I don't think so, they all go to chop shops like cattle to the slaughter and are sold for their parts.

Re: Most Stolen Cars

The sorts of people who are open to buying stolen parts are not the sort of people who pay any attention to maintaining their cars, hence they need a lot of parts to keep them going.

Of course theres a market for stolen Accords kept whole... its called the United States. I may not be a part of the underground car theft community, but I'm pretty sure that many (if not most) auto theft in this country is performed by individuals looking to easily take a car that doesn't belong to them for whatever personal motives. They steal them because its easy... the infamous glow ring on the steering column of the 4th 5th and 6th gen Accords was easy to pop off for access to the ignition system. I'm sure there are references to that issue on this site.

I had an 89, 94, and 2000 Accord and can attest to their stellar quality. I can also attest to the fact that they are easy to take apart and mod which makes them all the more attractive to thieves. You may notice the top 3 models on the list have reputations for excellent quality at a relatively low price. They are also some of the highest-selling models in this country... which means there are a lot more to steal... which leads to a lot more of them being stolen.

The Accord didn't even make it into the the top "The 10 Most Stolen Cars in 2011" http://www.carinsurancecomparison.co...-cars-in-2011/

Seems the Accord is going the way of the Ford Pinto, achieving no real recognition other than being the most stolen car.

From what I have read and experienced, you are spot-on.

Around here, many cars are stolen to "joyride". But they are not joyriding. The bad guys need to use some stolen car to commit other crimes, such as knock-off convenience stores or transport stolen property, then abandon the car when the deeds are done.

This kind of theft favours older cars which typically are easy to steal, which is reflected in the statistics. My older Pontiac was swiped from in front of my house. It was the oldest car in the entire neighbourhood and was chosen just because of the ease of theft.

BTW the cops found it with a trunk-full of stolen stuff (not mine ) but the thief ran away.

I saw that list but wasn't sure if they were talking only about 2011 model year vehicles or not. You're right though, the Accord is clearly the Ford Pinto of this generation

I believe he was being sarcastic hence the

The Accord might be boring and forgettable, but it's a bit unfair to compare it to the Pinto.

I doubt the Pinto was ever stolen in as many numbers
