97 voyager will not crank/start??????

Working on a 97 voyager and it will not crank or start. the battery, starter, ignition, relay are all good. It appears that there is no ground present in the relay box. If I jumper from ground to the ground leg of the relay it will crank but will not start.

Re: 97 voyager will not crank/start??????

Couple of issues may cause your problem:

1) Check to make sure you are fully in Park or Neutral
2) Do your guages work? If not, try smacking the dash and see what happens. You may have the very common bad solder joint on the instrument cluster. There is a very good thread on here detailing the fix. If I remember correctly R.I.P. posted it.
3) Check all your fuses.
4) Your Tranny Range Sensor may be bad. (same thing as the Neutral Safety Switch, but with a different name)

Good luck!

Fuses are all good the gauges all work. I will look at the neutral safety switch. Any other ideas?

Manual transmission and 3 spd auto= Neutral safety switch - simple quick change switch on front of tranny

Automatic 4 spd transmission = Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) - not so simple pain in the butt assembly change mounted above the valve body in the tranny. The good news? The connctor for it is mounted vertically on the front of the tranny. You can test the park/neutral switch on the TRS from there.

EDIT - Gulp! Thanks for the reminder jpb53 (post #9)

Hey Alphabravo. Don't put me in my grave yet. R.I.P. looks too much like something you see on a tombstone. Just leave the . out. Happy New Year.

The wife's been bugging me for a while to change the RIP to something else. It has two connotations, neither exactly positive. It was a nick name from my early years in the military. I won't go any further with painting that picture.

Re: 97 voyager will not crank/start??????

You can get the wiring diagrams on line if you have a library card.
http://search.ebscohost.com/login.as...efctr&return=y
Neutral switch has 3 wires white is power supply fro m fuse #12 in the junction block.
Violet with a black tracer goes to the back-up lights.
Black with a white tracer goes to PCM for the park neutral switch input.
This is for a 3.0l engine with a 3 speed trans with lockup torque converter.

So I am guessing when in park or neutral it should be giving the 12v power out to the PCM?
