97 Chevy Silverado 5.7L Fuel pump relay inttermit

So after tuning it up with plugs wires cap+rotor fuel filter and also a new fuel pump the truck starts fine. After about 10sec it will idle surge. I notice in the fuse box the furl pump relay was clicking on and off. i replace it with a new fuel pump it does the same thing. So i jump a wire from the relay to one of the fuse and the truck idles fine. When i turn off the car the power goes to the fuel pump relay all the time but when i turn on the key there is no power going t the next terminal of the relay. Can someone tell me what is going on with my relay?

Re: 97 Chevy Silverado 5.7L Fuel pump relay inttermit

The control circuit for the relay comes from the VCM to relay spade #85. #86 is the path to ground. The relay will energize for 2-3 sec when the key is turned to "run". The relay should stay energized with the engine running or cranking. Why yours is cycling is a mystery. Could be a bad ground feed or power feed from the VCM.

#87 is "hot at all times" from the ECM B fuse.

When it's doing this, try wiggling the wires and connectors at the VCM.

Did this just happen after the cap, rotor & wires?? What brand fuel pump?

Hope this helps some.

the relay coil is powered by the pcm. after start up. I would check all grounds and the connections to the PCM.

the feed to the fuel pump is separate from the coil control. this goes to the relay contacts that switch power to the pump .

coil feed is low amps the contract switching the high amps to the fuel pump.

it would also be good to check this with a voltmeter and also check the ignition switch ..
