brakes make mechanical whine noise
when i press my brakes at low speeds there is a mechanical whine that i can hear and it seems my abs is turning on as if it thinks my car is about to slide if the car is shut off then restarted the abs light will usually come on and the whineing noise will not happen no brake work has been done to car resently car is a 93 lumina

If the ABS light comes on and the noise is gone, it's because the ABS system is disabled......need to get the ABS code read....

I have the same problem. My ABS is not working since 4 years ago. Sometimes it is cold the abs turns on, but I have clicking sound on break pedal. Now we have, if ABS turns on the whining noise too. All peoples look at us. But if the ABS turn off then all is fine.

Sounds like the ABS accumulator pump is running inappropriately. Accumulator might be blown or something, valve stuck, whatever. Hard to say. Will have to be code scanned for an answer.
