94 Silverado No power to the distributor

Doing some work on a 94 Silverado w/5.7 . Just stopped running. Checked and replaced cap and rotor which were bad to say the least. Still no spark though. Coil checks out fine, it's the distributor not getting enough voltage to fire. And yes checked it with the ignition turned on only getting 1volt. I just need an idea about where the problem may be located so I do not need to cut into the harness to isolate the problem. Does the distributor or ignition have a fusible link needed for it to work. I have checked all the fuses and replaced to rule them out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and GOD bless.

Possible Ign Sw issue? I don't have a diagram for the '94, but I don't think there is a fusible link involved.

Re: 94 Silverado No power to the distributor

My truck is a 97 and the same problem has been caused twice by the red positive cables on the battery
Two cables on mine and you must scrape clean where they contact each other.
Both times i wiggled the cable and it started.
The second time I really cleaned and also replaced the rounded off 5/16 headed bolt that tightens them on and also for a few dollars bought a six sided little ratchet made for that bolt.
It worked for a long time now, The wrench now lives in the tool box under the hood.

Re: 94 Silverado No power to the distributor

I've checked the voltage past the links on the battery cable and they are fine. The ignition switch was replaced last year. The engine cranks fine too. Have to trace some wires down I guess. If anybody can think of anything else let me know.
Thanks

what you need now is a wiring diagram. it is possible to find this at your local library for free.

it is possible someone here could email you this.

Try looking for a fuse able link 20 gauge gray look around the starter.
Check voltage on the pink wire from the ignition switch. They can get out of adjustment if they come loose or linkage gets bent. Use a DVOM check voltage at the switch if good. Check voltage at the coil if its a lot less run a temporary wire to the coil from ignition switch if it runs repair or replace the wire. I would disconnect and check voltage first as the coil may be bad.

Re: 94 Silverado No power to the distributor

Checked the distributor voltage on a running 89' 5.7l and voltage was the same as the 94. I think Ive narrowed it down to the ignitor unit in the distributor. May swap them around tommorow to see if that will make it run.
