No heated seat

I have no heat on the drivers side only. There is a black box under the seat approx 3"x3" that clicks when the switch is pushed. Is it the pad itself, what wires am i looking at for high low etc. Oh 2002 Lesabre Limited, if i don't get this fixed I'll have a wife with a hot head and a cold butt

Re: No heated seat

Probably need a heater element, unplug the element and measuer resistance across it. It should be around 3.0 ohms. You probably have one for the seat back also, the plugs are the same so make sure you check the correct one. It's a pretty common failure.

Re: No heated seat

GMtech1 is right......the elements go on these.......the elements are wired in series, so if one goes, you lose both(usually one is placed in the seat bottom, and the other in the seat back).......when you order them, you get both elements......some cars are "fun" to replace.....you have to remove the seat covers.....some covers are held in place with velcro, those are the easy ones......some are held in place with metal rings,,,,,those are the tough ones......the elements themselves are easy to install.....it's those seat covers that are the problem....

But you need a schematic to verify this.....there are two harness connectors going to the box and you have to know which circuits to test for an open circuit.....you do not want to replace those elements and then find out there was nothing wrong with them.....that it was that module under the seat, that was the problem....so check the resistance of the elements first...If "OL", that's the problem....

Re: No heated seat

Probably the lower element has a burnt wire as it was on my regal. Check for continuity and then proceed to remove the seat cover and follow the wires. It was easy to see the burn. Solder the wires and you'll have heat again. I removed the seat for the repair. Going on the second winter for me.
