2000 Olds Alero says Service Engine Soon, can not link up to pull codes...


it's like the ECU is not even there... either way I have no idea what to do here

however the car runs perfectly... no issues at all

Did you try a different code reader/scanner? Pin 16 at the data link connector should be hot, is it? Pins 4 and 5 are grounds.

yeah it must be his code scanner, because I tested both grounds are good and the 12 volts is getting 12 volt


it smells like it is running a little rich... my money is on the 02 sensor

I considered that, I have went 5000 miles since the last change (well as far as the car knows)

A lot of shops and even autoparts stores can run a scan for free. Have you tried another scanner to see if you can pull the code?

turns out that the guy that tried to read it was new... it reads fine... it is just a minor evap leak... looks like the gas cap is shot...

lol, no not at all... I actually moved out here from Johnson County, KS when my wife and I purchased our first house

well this minor evap code keeps coming back every week or 2 after week have it cleared... it also seems to idle just a little rough... barely noticeable
