Re: HELP! 99 GTP overheats in summer no heat in the winter

Hello There!

Great discussion on thermal dynamics!

The radiator is a heat exchanger, air on one side, water in the tubes. The faster the flow of water, hence no restriction from a thermostat, the cooler the engine will run. (outside temp and fan operation included)

Kinda like this, the fluid flowing at different speeds equates to how much mass of water(coolant) can adsorb heat to dissapate in the radiator.

Higher flow equates to more mass of water per time to adsorb heat.

Restriction slows the amount of water (flow mass of water per time) that can adsorb heat and thus the engine stays at a higher temp.

The longer in time the water stays in the block (less flow) the hotter the engine will be.

I still have not had time to correct the problem, but yet again, temps crept above 85 and had to turn the heater on to cool the engine.

I appreciate all your guys time and help. I forgot to link ths to my email for updates, sorry I havent posted in awhile.

Have a good one!

Thumbs up Re: HELP! 99 GTP overheats in summer no heat in the winter

Fixed.....!

Did a few things to correct the problem.

Drained the old radiator and filled with coolant flush cleaner, drove the car with the cleaner flush in, heat on no t stat. Side note, had to drain with lower hose, radiator drain was plugged. Then flushed the entire cooling system with a flush kit and hose, heat on, no thermo stat, teed in before heater core, then after, flushed for 10 min each way with water coming out of top of radiator to the drain.

Drained and replaced with oversized radiator from zzp, then filled with green stuff.

Old radiator weighed more than new oversized rad, old filled with gunk, dex sludge.

Car runs great no over heating, i tested it with the last heat spell we had.

Heater core not plugged.

Thanks and have a good one.
