Airbag Light on
My airbag light came on last night. When I start the car it flashes at a constant speed 8 times and stays solid. Anyone know if it is flashing a code and what the codes are?

Re: Airbag Light on
The flashing is not a code it is the self diagnsotic procedure, you will a SIRS function scanner top access the SIRS codes for a diagnosis.

Re: Airbag Light on
finally got a scan tool to pull the codes and there's a lot:
Instrument panel cluster: U1088 Loss of SIR/SDM communications SIR: B1000 ECU malfunction ECU malfunction-RFA Internal Fault B1001 Incorrect SDM Installed Option Configuration Error U1000 Class 2 Data Link Malfunction U1016 Loss of PCM Communications Lost Communications with engine control system U1040 ICC class 2 serial data SOH fault loss of EBCM/EBTCM communications U1096 Class 2 TXD Failure Loss of IPC communications U1064 Loss of BCM/DIM/SBM communications The light doesn't always come on but most of the time it will come on after driving maybe 20-30 minutes. |

Re: Airbag Light on
With all those set, best bet is clear them and see which code(s) reset when the light comes on. Then start the diag. Some of those may be history codes and not relevent to your problem.

Re: Airbag Light on
Thanks. I figured that's what I would do. I ended up clearing them and will post back when the light pops back on.

Re: Airbag Light on
Checked my codes again only the B1000 has returned so far.
Krivas: Nothing that I know was jammed under the seat but years ago there was a bunch of water on the floor on that side. |

Re: Airbag Light on
Thanks Krivas. I lied about the water. Just looked and there isnt enough to soak through the carpet but can hear it squishing underneath the carpet. Guess I will remove the seat so i can clean up the water and check the wiring while I'm there. If the SDM was bad wouldn't the light always be on? This is more of an intermittent problem. Drove the car for a few hours yesterday and the light didn't come on.

Re: Airbag Light on
Well that module definitely took a bath. There was a ton of water soaked into the carpet mat. GMpartsdirect has this part for about $440 new. If I get a used one would I need to have the bcm flashed to accompany the new module part number so it will work correctly or is it just plug n play?
I checked the rubber seal underneath the windshield (above the blower motor) and it looks to be securely in place so not sure where the water is coming from. I may try to put some silicone or something around the top of the seal to see if it helps. |

Re: Airbag Light on
Take a look at the harness connectors....if several are "green", replace the harness connector.....GM sells it .....have replaced a few due to water leaks causing the connectors to corrode........
Not sure if you can use an SDM from another car, because the SDM already has a VIN stored in it.... |

Re: Airbag Light on
So i ordered a used cowl vent panel from a salvage yard (haven't got it yet) because the passenger side piece was bowed off the window in a couple places. So hopefully that helps with the water leak issue.
Also, I was looking for the ac drain and couldn't find it. So I felt around with my hand and I think I found the place where it goes but the rubber hose drain is missing. Could this be an issue with the passenger floor getting wet if the drain was missing? If so, anyone know where to get this or have a part number? Edit: think this is the part number ACDelco 15-33323 OEM 22697948 Last edited by greasyhog; 09-06-2011 at 03:56 PM. |

Re: Airbag Light on
Here in NYS I am a licensed state inspector, operate a repair shop and am ASE master, the rules in this state are there to protect the consumers. There is no entity to indemnify the SIRS if it fails in a collision when using used parts, hence part of the reason for the law, I am not supporting it in whole but stating the reasoning behind the extreme caution using lkq parts, yes it is self diagnosing, and a professional would properly address a SIRS lite after the repairs, hopefully. BTW there are no SIRS deployment modules that have more than a time use.
