Question chirp sometimes works

When the car is locked/unlocked, the chirp sometimes works and other times doesn't. And even once in a while it sort of squeaks. Any thoughts? Maybe replace the little chirping device?

Thanks!

P.S. it's a 1998 with 5S-FE engine, if it matters.

Re: chirp sometimes works

update:
just noticed that the lights, when flashing, correspond somewhat to the sound/no sound of the chirp. I noticed that the lights flashed very dimmly the same time the chirp was not working.

So, is there a relay or something not providing the needed power to the lights and the chirp device when locking/unlocking the car?

Thanks!

Re: chirp sometimes works

another update. As of lately, the chirp hasn't worked but the lights are full brightness. Hmmm.... any ideas. Seems to me it just might be the chirping device. I'll continue to look into this.

Thank you for the updates. I don't understand chirpers...

Re: chirp sometimes works

Maybe call it a confirmation note, or beep, but when the doors are locked and unlocked using the remote key fob it chirps.

For the last two days, the lights flash fine, but no beep, or chirp, for a confirmation occuring.

I've tried looking for this part at online part stores, but having trouble locating due to not knowing the proper name for this thing. It's located under the hood near the top right corner area. It is strapped to some existing wiring and wrapped in a foam-like piece. If I can find an engine compartment diagram, I may be able to identify it.

A Toyota parts department will have a parts breakdown.

Re: chirp sometimes works

It is possible that the grounding wire for the "chirper" or alarm horn has become corroded and isn't making good contact with the body. You can take a screwdriver to remove the screw that attaches it and clean the connector and screw with a scotch-brite pad, then reattach it.
