89 Taurus Stalling in hot weather
I have an 89 Taurus thatkeeps stalling out in hot weather. I repalced the TFI module on the distributor with one from my 91, thinking that when the original one was heating up, it would cause the vehicle to misfire and die out. It seems to almost vapor lock in a way, and if I let it sit for about 30 minutes, it will start and run again, but fills slugish and sounds like it is backfiring. Any answers??????

Re: 89 Taurus Stalling in hot weather
I'm not familiar with the "TFI" module. Sounds a bit like the "TBI" for Throttle Body Injection, but I'm not sure that's what you're referring to.
The symptoms you describe are reminiscent of a couple of fairly common issues for that vintage of Ford - weak fuel pump and/or faulty Ignition Control Module. Any chance you have a fuel pressure tester and a spark tester that you could keep in the car so next time it stalls you can see which you don't have, fuel or spark? -Rod |
