99 cherokee wants to stall out...
ok here is the problem that I have been facing now for some time...my 99 cherokee when first started will act like its going to stall out w/in the first 5 min of running...it never does though, and it will get a surge where the RPM's go from almost 0 to 6...then it runs fine...you can also hear where there is air being sucked in...now if i'm driving it will act like its going to stall when u come to your first stop, i flutter the gas, but you can hear a loud knocking as the engine is trying to go, then the surge hits and it runs fine....i've replaced fuel pump, try engine cleaners like sea foam and mopor stuff for jeeps..my mechanic thinks its valves sticking...I also at times lose oil pressure for no reason while driving...any help?

Re: 99 cherokee wants to stall out...
The first thing I'd check is the plugs, cap, rotor and plug wires. If these are all worn, you could have those issues with a cold engine. Check air filter also. Post back once you've had a look and let us know how it's doing.

If your losing oil pressure the hydraulic lifters won't work properly. Have you done regular oil changes? A plugged strainer maybe your problem. |

Re: 99 cherokee wants to stall out...
If the test gauge shows you losing oil pressure you have to pull the pan to clean the strainer.
